I Left San Diego After 46 Years⦠and Hereās Why Iām Not Looking Back š¤
Most people thought Iād never leave San Diego. I mean, who gives up the beach, the weather, and the tacos? š®
But after nearly 5 decades, I realized I wasnāt livingāI was just getting by.
So we packed up and made the move to Austin, Texas. Hereās why:
1ļøā£ Out-of-touch state & local leadership ā I got tired of feeling like my hard work wasnāt getting me anywhere. The policies in CA made it tough to thrive.
2ļøā£ Housing was crazy expensive ā Whether renting or buying, it felt like you needed $1M just to get in the game. Here in Austin, Iām surrounded by brand new homes that people can actually afford.
3ļøā£ Cost of living was crushing ā In San Diego, I was spending over 60% of my income just to survive. In Texas? Iāve cut that nearly in half. Iām now in the low 30% rangeāand itās made a world of difference.
4ļøā£ The homelessness crisis ā It broke my heart. Beautiful parts of the city were becoming unrecognizable, and no one had real solutions.
5ļøā£ New housing laws adding overcrowding ā Theyāre stacking people on top of each other, turning family neighborhoods into apartment zones. No thanks.
6ļøā£ Traffic, traffic, traffic ā I felt like I was living in my car. Now, I spend less time on the road and more time living.
Here in Austin, I finally feel like Iām moving forwardāpersonally, financially, and professionally.
Iām working with Lennar Homes, helping families buy beautiful new homes in Central Texas⦠and it feels good to finally be in a place thatās growing with intention.
š If youāve ever thought about leaving Californiaāor just want a fresh start somewhere that still feels like freedomāreach out. Iām happy to share what Iāve learned.
Thanks for all the love and support as we settle into this next chapter! ā¤ļø
