This book explores a grittier, more realistic, and fallible vision of traditional myths and legends, while flipping the familiar tropes on their heads. The story progresses as a mystery for both the reader and the protagonist, which unfolds through a series of personal challenges, adventures, and moral dilemmas. It contains elements of danger, horror, intrigue, romance, satire, and comedy, as well as a very awkward love triangle.
Tarthas is a half elf, almost ranger, with a good heart and terrible judgement, who finds himself with nowhere to call home due to his mixed heritage. Now fate is about to either throw everything he has ever desired into his lap, or set his crotch on fire. While living contentedly in voluntary seclusion with his golden haired sheep and hybrid lions, his long lost elven love, Sofauna, now a druid, shows up out of the blue with an offer that sounds too good to be true. Find and rescue a lost princess, and all of his dreams can finally be fulfilled! The only problem? That particularly promiscuous princess is his recent ex-lover, and evidently now very pregnant, not to mention there could be a price on his head if their affair were to be found out. But one way or another, he must track her down and get to the bottom of it, before his blissfully reclusive life spirals out of control. Unfortunately, following that path will lead him into the grip of dark, unseen forces, and place him in the midst of a maelstrom of political and supernatural turmoil, that could alter not only the fate of the world, but the very fabric of the universe.
