Our first first week ➡️ our last first week. 🥹🤘

Somehow, the campus that once felt brand new became the backdrop to a thousand little memories; late nights, big ideas, new friends, creative risks, and more “wait… what are we doing?” moments than we can count.

Now, our Texas Immersive seniors are stepping into their last semester at UT Austin. Same Forty Acres, very different people. Here’s to one last year of making, experimenting, imagining, and probably spending way too much time in the Immersive Lab.

Class of 2027, the final chapter starts now. 🎓✨ Hook ’em! 🤘

Priorities were set.

Sometimes the to-do list has other plans, but coffee always wins.

Immersive is more than just putting on a headset.

It can be a story you step into, a choice you get to make, or a moment that stays with you after it ends.

Want to see what we mean? Come hang out at the TXI Open House, take a quick tour of the lab, and see what people are making.

This summer, two of our Texas Immersive Explorers took what we talk about at TXI - curiosity, experimentation, and learning by doing - and brought it all the way to Los Angeles. ☀️🌴

They packed their bags, left UT Austin for the summer, and jumped into classes, internships, and life in a completely new city. They learned about film and storytelling, got a closer look at how entertainment comes together, built relationships with people they never would have met in Austin, and figured out a lot about themselves along the way.

There were long days, new friendships, lots of networking, unexpected opportunities, and plenty of moments where they were simply figuring it out as they went. Very TXI, if you ask us. 🤘

And they came away with two different stories. One Explorer returned to Austin with new experiences, connections, and ideas to bring back to the Forty Acres. The other loved LA so much that she decided to stay. 🤍

From Austin to LA and wherever our Explorers go next: take the chance, make the connection, and go explore. 🧡✨

Hook ’em, Explorers. 🤘

Field Notes from the Lab 📝

Before you can design an experience, you have to notice what it feels like to enter one.

During their first Sandbox Day, students in Audience Development & Engagement explored AR, VR, virtual worlds, spatial sound and experiential play - not simply as users, but as audience members.

Along the way, they reflected on what sparked curiosity, encouraged participation, created connection and shaped their overall experience. These observations are the building blocks of audience-first design.

What makes an experience pull you in?

A new semester begins at The University of Texas at Austin - and with it, new possibilities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Texas Immersive Institute brings together storytellers, researchers, designers, technologists and creative thinkers to develop participatory experiences that connect emerging technology with meaningful social impact.

We welcome undergraduate and graduate students from every field, as well as faculty and collaborators interested in experiential, interactive and story-driven work.

Here’s to a fall of asking better questions, testing new ideas and imagining the future of human experience together.

School’s back - and there’s a lot happening at TXI this year. 👀

Students and faculty are invited to stop by the Texas Immersive Institute Open House for a quick, 15-minute tour of our lab. Come explore our space, learn what we’re working on this year, and find out how you can get involved.

We’ll also be introducing our Immersive StoryCorps program and sharing opportunities for students interested in helping us bring stories to life through immersive media and emerging technology.

How do you turn an art collection into a story people can step inside?

Last fall, students in Experimental Storytelling explored a collection of 20th-century Latin American art.

Through research, narrative design, storyboarding, interaction mapping, and rapid prototyping, they developed immersive concepts that invited new audiences to experience stories of immigration, artistic resistance, materiality, and experimentation.

Students moved from early ideas to pitch decks, concept videos, and physical and digital prototypes—learning how to create stories that aren’t simply watched, but experienced.

Ready to research, design, build, and tell stories in new ways? Register for Experimental Storytelling this fall.

Turns out, curiosity is kinda chic.

At the Texas Immersive Institute, students don’t just learn about emerging technology - they use it to build, test, collaborate and tell stories people can step inside.

We create room for emerging talent to develop new skills, work across cultures and disciplines, share their work on international stages, connect with industry and turn ambitious ideas into real prototypes.

Swipe through a few of the things we’re proud to make possible at TXI.

What would you turn your curiosity into?
