BREAKING: Former Wake Forest All-American and NFL cornerback Alphonso Smith has passed away at the age of 40.

Smith reportedly passed away by su*cide at a housing community in Florida earlier today.

Smith's final Facebook post highlighted his unstable emotional state before his passing.

In the post, Smith wrote, "Do not cry for me! I tried everything in my power to fight the demons behind the ones that someone put into ME! I did not want to be that WAY! I know I have disappointed so many folks. This is a DEMON in me! But not only me! It’s EVERYONE! I have HURT so many! I needed help & did not get it!"

Smith repeatedly apologized in the post, calling himself a "coward" and included a reference to some abuse suffered at the hands of an older woman when he was a young boy.

Smith ended the post by writing, "I am SORRY! THIS IS IT."

Smith was selected by the Broncos in the second-round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of Wake Forest.

After one season in Denver, Smith went on to play three seasons with the Lions (2010-2012).

Hall of Famer Don Nelson, who won five NBA titles as a player and was a three-time Coach of the Year, has died on Sunday, per Marc Stein. He was 86.

His family said in a statement, “On Sunday morning our beloved husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather Don Nelson peacefully went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family."

🚨 AUSTIN TEEN FATALLY SHOT BY POLICE IDENTIFIED AS 17-YEAR-OLD ANTHONIEL WILLIAMS

AUSTIN, TEXAS — The 17-year-old who was fatally shot by Austin police has been identified as Anthoniel Williams, a tragedy that has left many in the community mourning the loss of a young life.

According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a person believed to be armed at a neighborhood playground.
Police say body camera footage shows officers giving verbal commands before Williams reached toward his waistband. Three officers then discharged their weapons, striking the teen.

Investigators later determined the object in Williams' waistband was a water bottle, not a fi***rm.

Police have also stated they are investigating whether Williams may have been the person who placed the 911 call and are exploring the possibility of what they describe as a potential "su***de by police." Authorities stress that the investigation remains active and no final conclusions have been reached.

The incident has prompted grief, questions, and calls for transparency as the community seeks answers. A memorial of flowers, candles, and a water bottle now stands at the scene, honoring the life of a 17-year-old whose death has deeply impacted many.

The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative duty while the investigation continues.

Tony Brown has passed away. Brown was an academic, businessman, and a trailblazer in journalism. Long before Black faces regularly sat in broadcast news chairs, Tony Brown was there. A native of West Virginia, he would make his way to Detroit and in 1959 graduated from Wayne State University. He received his masters from the university in 1961. By 1962, he became a drama critic for the Detroit Courier newspaper. In 1971, he became executive producer (and sometime host) of the monthly TV program Black Journal. The show, which had aired on the television network’s NET and then PBS since 1968 was produced and hosted by Brown from 1970. It was renamed Tony Browns Journal in 1977, it began on commercial television in syndication from 1978, then moved to PBS in 1982.
Along the way he served as (founding) Dean of Howard University’s School of Communication, he later served as Dean for Hampton’s School of Communication. In the late 80s, he would produce and direct the film, The White Girl. He was a long-time proponent of buying Black and support of Black business. Brown was 93.
