Revisiting our Eco-Expo at Earth Edition festival at CalArts in 2023. 🌎

Bringing together large-scale eco-art installations and community Eco Chats, it created space for conversations around creativity, sustainability, and environmental equity.

Visons2030’s Yona Backer reflects on the days she spent at Katapult Future Fest in Ruigoord — the legendary experimental artist village on the edge of Amsterdam that feels part cultural commune, part future laboratory. A fascinating mix of artists, technologists, impact investors, systems thinkers, spiritual leaders, and social entrepreneurs all wrestling with how we imagine and build more life-affirming futures.

Especially meaningful to hear Kate Raworth speak again on Donut Economics after her participation in Visions2030’s New City conference in 2021, and to hear conversations emerging around new models like the Imagine Fund and the growing recognition that arts, culture, imagination, and experiences of awe are not peripheral to social transformation — but central to it.

Also inspiring to briefly hear from Katapult founder Tharald Nustad and to spend time with Mark Beam and many others I met through the festival working across overlapping ecosystems of change.

This week is not only about what is being built, but why it is being built, who it serves, and what kind of future it makes possible.

Bringing together artists, futurists, scholars, organizers, and community voices, the event created space to imagine what the American Dream could become for future generations. Through conversations, performances, and collective imagination, participants explored themes of democracy, sustainability, technology, culture, spirituality, and social transformation at a pivotal moment for the country and the world.
