Dubai’s $35 Billion Mega Airport: A New Era of Air Travel

Dubai is investing US $35 billion (AED 128 billion) to expand Al Maktoum International Airport, with the ambition of making it the largest airport in the world.

2. Size & Capacity
Spanning 27 square miles — five times larger than today’s Dubai International Airport — the new hub will feature 400 aircraft gates and five parallel runways, designed to serve up to 260 million passengers annually.

3. Replacement & Timeline
The mega-hub will eventually replace Dubai International (DXB). Its first phase, capable of handling 150 million passengers, is expected to be completed between 2032 and 2034.
