They told us the history books were complete. They were not.
On the Texas Road Trip, Anjelica sat down inside the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute in San Antonio (Mexican American Civil Rights Institute - MACRI) with its Executive Director, historian Dr. Sarah Zenaida Gould. They talked about why San Antonio is the cradle of Mexican American civil rights, how the Mexican Revolution shaped the city's West Side, and why Mexican Americans had to fight, in courtrooms and at the ballot box, for rights the law already promised them in 1848.
The part that stays with you: speaking up for yourself is not complaining. It is advocating, for yourself and for your comunidad.
