He toured the facility and then joined a round-table discussion on the value of ASCs and the many benefits ASCs provide to patients and the healthcare system as a whole. Home construction per household is now at its lowest levels in nearly six decades, leading to a new housing crisis of too few homes and too many potential buyers. https://t.co/HVRYrNsuOb

Ten years after a housing collapse during the Great Recession, home values have rebounded but there are too few homes on the market. Buyers face intense competition, and that means higher prices.

ASCs Mark a Win in Congress

The US House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means marked up the Ambulatory Surgical Center Payment Transparency Act of 2018 (H.R. 6138), which comprises half of the Ambulatory Surgical Center Quality and Access Act of 2017 (H.R. 1838)—ASCA’s mainstay legislation. The bill would add at least one ASC representative to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Advisory Panel on Hospital Outpatient Payment and require CMS to disclose the criteria it uses to exclude procedures from the ASC Medicare-payable procedure list. These measures will provide the ASC industry more representation before regulators and establish transparency in the Medicare procedure review process.

The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association has advocated these provisions for several years and will continue monitoring the progress of this legislation. It still has a way to go, but we thank the House Committee for moving the bill forward!
