Via Austin Business Journal: But Martell kept diving deeper into creative endeavors, which led him to eventually create gaming studio Mighty Coconut and its flagship game, Walkabout Mini Golf.

It's proven to be a hit. The game, launched in 2020, is now releasing its 37th mini golf course, and it's based on Lewis Carroll’s 1865 classic “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland."

Five years into the game, Mighty Coconut reports players have spent a collective 23M hours in the game to date — or about 26 centuries. That includes over two billion putts and about 97K acres of explorable areas within the virtual golf course worlds.

Whether you call it mini golf, minigolf, goofy golf, shorties, extreme golf, crazy golf, adventure golf, mini-putt, or putter golf—it’s likely the pastime/sport has been part of your life in some form and it has been a part of the zeitgeist for over a hundred years since The Illustrated London News introduced a minigolf course called “the Gofstacle“. Today on International Mini Golf Day, we celebrate miniature golf in all of its forms and all of the entities, operators, associations, and players that keep it vibrant and growing. Last weekend, the Bert Brecht Education Center on Langemarkstraße was transformed into an extraordinary sports arena: over 100 participants competed in the third edition of the 1st Miniature Golf Triathlon World Cup. The event, which was part of Oberhausen Democracy Week, was held in Oberhausen, Germany and in Walkabout Mini Golf. Mayor Daniel Schranz also took the opportunity to pick up a club himself – both analog and virtual – and was enthusiastic about the creative mix of sport, culture, and technology.

Jens Feldhof won the individual competition with ease and also claimed the title of overall winner of the 2025 Miniature Golf Triathlon.
