Brian Wilson’s passing hits me harder than any for a person I did not directly know. But I felt like I did know Brian since his music has been an ever present part of my life since I was a young child. I grew up listening to The Beach Boys greatest hits on CD and radio thoughout elementary school. Then while in middle school my dad bought me a copy of Pet Sounds. It didn’t instantly click with me, but over the following years I kept coming back to it more and more often.

By the time I was in college and going through some extremely difficult personal challenges, Brian’s music had propelled itself to being the thing I turned to when things were getting tough. His music has such a profound profound impact on me that when I decided to make a few tapes for a band I loved I decided to name the project Human Sounds as a nod to Pet Sounds.

Over the years my life has changed greatly in both wonderful and difficult ways: marriage, fatherhood, the loss of loved ones, and a cross country move. But Brian’s music has been a constant as I have navigated these events. I will miss Brian immensely, but at least his music is forever.
