I just started up a song for the Cat Mafia game that features an instrument that I'm starting to love the more and more I use it (unfortunately, I only have a midi one): the Celeste! It's a beautiful little piano type thing that has such a magical and ice-y tone. Check out this video of the Sugar Plum Fairy theme being played on it.

The quintessential song of the fairies: Great Fairy's Fountain Theme. Soft plucks and strums of a harp. An occasional glockenspiel. It's one of my favorite songs from a videogame and it was also used in the film "Scott Pilgrim" during a dream sequence that Scott has about Ramona. It gives the idea that Scott puts Ramona on such a high pedestal that he thinks of her almost like a fairy.

No link to post today but do know that I'm still working on that Cat Mafia game. So far, we have a running level and cats that can shoot! It's a good start and I'm excited to keep moving forward with it.

Damn! I missed a post on Thursday! And I was doing so good up until then...

Well, to make it timely then, let's have some Star Wars music! And not the main theme that everybody knows. Not even one from the original trilogy! The Episode 1 theme: Duel of the Fates. The prequels often get blasted for being wooden and stale but there were certain things about them that were still very on point and deserving of the Star Wars name. The music most definitely kept its quality with these piping horns and haunting vocals. When I think Star Wars music, this is one of the first things that comes to mind.

The ultimate suspense theme: Jaws. Stephen Spielberg himself has said before that Jaws would not be the massive success that it was if it were not for John Williams' score. The way that the placement of the music plays with expectation always leaves you not knowing what will be next. And yet when we finally see Jaws for the first time, no musical prelude for the perfect surprise!

New news for New Soul! The short film I did music for, New Soul, premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival in February. During the Q&A for shorts that it was featured amongst, the majority of the questions were directed about New Soul! It was also featured in a SXSW sanctioned event hosted by Austin Film Society and will be showing in New York this month at the BEFILM Underground Festival.

Way to go New Soul! Go go go!

The academy award winning soundtrack this year was Alexandre Desplat's soundtrack for The Grand Budapest Hotel and it won for good reason. It's a delightfully whimsical yet dark creation. Give it a listen!
