Dee Leekha-Houck’s ideas and thoughts about short beginner courses started about 10 years ago. She created the first official ”micro” course in Austin, Texas in Anderson Mill. Before then, no one was using the words micro courses or had a concept such as hers of a “micro disc golf course”. She is the official mother of the “micro” disc golf courses and an innovator in her own right.

She has inspired and taught design to hundreds of designers not only through her workshops, but also through her Facebook discussion group --safer, smarter, and more sustainable disc golf - where over 1,300 designers, players, and course owners, company owners along with disc golf clubs and parks and rec staff discuss and share disc golf course design topics for the past eight-nine years.

Micro courses have been designed by Dee in about seven-eight states (would be more but some upgraded to par 3 only courses), and these courses are made for the beginner to enjoy and seasoned players to have fun with ONE disc. A Midrange. Putters can also be used by more advanced players, but drivers are never allowed. A combination of par 3’s and Par 2’s with strategy and challenge in the design make it a great course for any community. These designs aren’t simple, and they are based on “Houck” concepts and principles — which she modified for this type fo design. If the land doesn’t offer features, then features are created. It’s much more than a simple straight shot to the basket. We are proud of Dee for the many contributions she has made, and continues to make in disc golf.

Press conference today in Jefferson Parish (New Orleans). Thanks to the Parish and DGPT HouckDesign will be showcasing their latest design in the New Orleans area for a Pro Tour Tournament to be held on March 13-15.
