2 nights in Budapest wasn't enough!

First day was typical sightseeing, second day was spent on the pest side roaming..... would have loved that third day to do the same on the Buda side.

We decided to head down on our last day to the bridge for 📸 and watch a little of the marathon ( huge turnout by the way with a band and people cheering along the sides) as well as stop by a local coffee shop.

As we were headed back, we stumbled upon the memorial statue as well as the photos for the citizens memorial pictures below .... I recommend reading a bit about it as it's an interesting story.

Further along stumbled upon the last day of a 🍺 festival which of course we returned to that evening.

The river cruise crowds were pretty high in the tourist/sightseeing areas but once we got off the beaten path it was very pleasant and came upon some things we never would have seen otherwise!

Don't skip out on spending some extra days here before or after your cruise.

*posting a couple videos in my stories since it won't let me on this post

Let's get into it!

I want to share a few of my thoughts on Viking vs AmaWaterways (and other river cruises). This was my first time on Viking and I treated the week more like a vacation than work trip to get the full experience.

Viking was lovely and very similar to others I've been on as the formula and ships are basically the same. The room was small but I was in the entry level category so it's to be expected. The staff was wonderful, friendly and on top of everything. The food was better than I expected, which was a nice treat seeing as I'm not a fan of most German/Austrian food.

The big differences were the inclusions, or mainly what isn't included on Viking.....

Excursions are only 1 walking tour a day and they were mainly ok.... guides and information really didn't stand out.
All other excursions are extra and book up fast, even the bikes are not available unless you purchase the excursion.

On Ama you have a large selection of included tours and can even do one in the morning and one in the evening. You can also opt to grab a bike onboard as they are included a well and not pre booked.

Wine is only served with lunch and dinner with your choice of a red or white. So if you like a nice glass of wine with dinner or a cocktail during their happy hour I do recommend purchasing the beverage package.

Ama offers a couple different wines and beer with dinner as well as cocktails during their happy hour....which truthfully is enough as you are generally out and about all day with excursions.

While Viking is a perfectly fine choice at a great price point, if you're looking for a more inclusive package with a bit more onboard perks I recommend we chat and I can share a number of options.

♤ Also just an FYI, there is still space on Christmas Market cruises for this year.... after walking around Vienna and Budapest I am dying to now see them decorated for the holidays.

Surely no one is sharing this with us..... famous last words from my husband on the train to Regensburg!

Yes, it was just like trading places(photo below).... 2 mom's and their teen daughters, so chatter and "aromatic"snacks were at an all time high!
Truthfully it was absolutely fine but quite different than the usual European train set up!

We had decided to stay a night in Regensburg before getting on the ship mainly for the ease of it and our hotel was quite charming paired with a wonderfully popular restaurant.

I always love the quaint cities in Europe and this town is a cute little one night stop.

* I posted my Prague "dump" on my personal page so take a peek over there but for the rest I'll be sharing mostly here.

Rocco Forte is a great partner, here are a few family friendly ideas for your next adventure.....

Family & Friends Summer Blast at Verdura Resort (Italy) ~
Nestled along the picturesque southwest coast of Sicily, Verdura Resort awaits as the ultimate Mediterranean escape with its own private beach, world-renowned Kyle Phillips golf course, an indulgent spa offering holistic therapies, and a superb kids club. Verdura Resort recently introduced new experiences for families, including the opportunity to learn how to kitesurf with champions and master the decks like a DJ. Families can also discover Sicily's diverse landscapes with off-road adventures and scenic yacht trips, enjoy unique culinary events, and celebrate with personalized experiences in Rocco Forte Private Villas.

The Little Gladiator Experience at Hotel de la Ville (Italy) ~
Add some excitement to your family's trip to Rome with a thrilling and enjoyable activity for your kids. Instead of boring books or lectures, give your children the chance to experience what life was like for a gladiator in ancient times. Bring them to a genuine school for brave gladiators where they can learn about the history of these fierce fighters from passionate and knowledgeable instructors. They will even have the opportunity to handle and wear real weapons and armor used in ancient bales. But the real fun begins when they train like true Roman gladiators, learning techniques of attack and defense with a sword (safety is always a top priority!)

Fairytale Escape to Bavaria’s UNESCO Castle Wonders at The Charles Hotel (Germany)
The Charles, a Rocco Forte Hotel, is offering guests the opportunity to experience these architectural masterpieces up close with individually organized tours to each of the four castles, steeped in history, fantasy, and royal grandeur. Families on the hotel's one-day Royal Castle Tours can explore the enchanting castles of King Ludwig II, each filled with unique marvels like a floor-lowering table, throne-like toilets, secret passages, and grottoes with heated stalactites and color-changing lights. Families can visit the famous Neuschwanstein Castle, which inspired the castle in the Disney classic “Cinderella” as well as the “Sleeping Beauty Castle” at Disneyland, along with the villa-like Linderhof Castle.

Art Hunt at Uffizi Gallery at Hotel Savoy (Italy)
The Hotel Savoy, in collaboration with the great Florentine Museum, (located two minutes’ walk from the hotel), has created an irresistible treasure hunt that will arouse children’s curiosity as well as their artistic sensitivity, as well as giving their parents to see their children having fun during their trip to the Uffizi. There’s a magic box to guide the children, containing the treasure map and a series of cards which show the treasures hidden in the works of the great masters. It’s all there waiting to be discovered.

TinTin Suite at Hotel Amigo (Belgium)
The only Tintin Suite in the world, our suite brings joy to fans of all ages, featuring artwork, books, prints, and other decorations handcrafted for the Hotel Amigo by Tintinimaginatio—including a unique drawing signed by Steven Spielberg when he stayed at the Hotel Amigo during the Tintin film launch. Fun for families, the Suite includes a bodyguard, Little Snowy, Tintin-themed bed linens, comic book artwork, and books that bring the stories to life. Adjacent to the bedroom is the Carrara marble bathroom with exclusive, luxurious Irene Forte products.

Discover the Puppet Heritage of Palermo at Villa Igiea (Italy)
Discover history, majesty, and serenity at Villa Igiea: a turn-of-the-century palazzo at the perimeter of vivid Palermo, which was once a long-loved seaside-meets-city sanctuary for royalty, dignitaries, and Hollywood luminaries. Families can experience the magic of one of Palermo’s most captivating traditions — the Opera dei Pupi, a UNESCO-recognized Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage. This intimate experience, designed for children, is an invitation to step into a mesmerizing world of craftsmanship, history and imagination. Little ones will delight in centuries-old stories and heroic quests, told through richly detailed puppets. Handcrafted with extraordinary care and attention to detail, each puppet is brought to life by the skilled and devoted hands that will one day pass down this beloved art form to future generations.

Rocco Forte Kids
The Rocco Forte Kids program ensures younger guests are just as pampered as the grown-ups, welcoming children of all ages with tailored experiences for babies (0-3), kids (4-12), and teens (13-16). Families traveling with infants will find everything they need for a seamless stay, from bottle warmers and baby baths to complimentary baby meals and a full range of infant amenities upon request.
