FYI Black Friday isn't just for retail!

If I could show my inbox filled with all of the upcoming specials being offered you'd be planning your trip today.

My suggestion is spend some time this upcoming holiday and break to talk to the family about next year travel ideas. Heck you can even get me on the phone to go over what might work best for budget, age groups and interests ( Just not Thanksgiving day lol).

Few items to think about....

~ Yes Italy is still crazy busy and up there in price during the summer especially.

~ If you are thinking about Japan, it might be best to give them another year to get more guides etc based on crowds. Look at Vietnam or Thailand

~ Safari is changing and becoming big business, if you want authentic I would look at going sooner rather than later or stepping outside the box of typical destinations. It is an experience you won't ever forget

~ River cruises aren't just for the older generation, it is truly a shame it has been given that stigma. Easiest trip with friends and family and you get to enjoy many countries and cities.

~ There is so much more to Spain than just Barcelona and each city has its own vibe.

I could go on but that is a few top of mind items when you are deciding on locations. Reach out , you know I never mind talking travel!

In honor of World Safari day I wanted to speak on something I learned on my trip to Kenya.

I assume many of you have seen the article about the Maasai suing over the Ritz Carlton Lodge being built in the migration path and Maasai land. It is supposed to go to court in December but no date has been provided. It is a serious topic and one that should be supported, it sets a dangerous precedent.

This also leads to something that concerned me while I was in Kenya...... Safari cars jockeying for a place to be right next to the animals without regard for their space or safety. Cars that would block the animal from walking in a certain direction so they became confused and tried to find openings.

I, like the next person, want to see it all and be close but when it comes to infringing on the wildlife who call that land home a line needs to be drawn. The guides are hoping to make their guests happy but should also be teaching the cues animals use to communicate their stress to the guests.

We as guests need to become active stewards as well and let our guides know we are not okay with the aggressive behavior to get close and block their path. We have to respect nature and wildlife, take pride in giving animals the space they deserve in their own home and not make it all about the Instagram photo.

Stepping off my soapbox now lol..... I obviously think safari is an incredible experience but we need to keep in mind how our actions affect the animals and the land while we are there.

So many things I want to talk about but first can we take a moment to discuss how proud of myself I am for my Kenya packing skills!! I said I would let you know so.....

My longchamps duffle might be stained forever but I followed the rules and along with my new $25 travel backpack I fit everything I needed.
Packing cubes made life so easy and the backpack with all the pockets meant I was completely organized as well.
Laundry was a little pricey at the lodge but well worth it not to overpack.

If you are planning a trip with me for safari, I've got you covered on what and how to pack, of course the perfect itinerary too!

More to come........

Africa has always had me under its spell - it's more than just a destination, it's a potent cocktail of vibrant culture, unforgettable wild experiences, and electric energy.

Last year, I had the privilege of visiting South Africa and the We Are Africa trade show, and now Kenya. These firsthand experiences are absolutely essential.... Until you actually immerse yourself in a place like Africa, its essence is hard to fully grasp. Now, I feel completely equipped to specialize in this incredible continent and build my business around it.

Investing time and money in experiencing a destination personally is what sets a great travel advisor apart, plus it's a total bonus for clients. And let's be real, I'm not exactly suffering through this part of the job - especially when the goal is to become a total Africa expert.

Day one in kenya and we got right to it!
Spent the morning at the 🦒 center, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and a quick stop at Karen blixen museum.
Perfect way to start the adventure and have some fun the day after after a long plane ride.
Next we are on to safari.....

Kenya is calling and I must go!

Headed out on Thursday, very excited and a tad nervous! Hopefully I'm prepared and wanted to share some packing tips/ ideas before I go and hope they line up while I'm there..... I'll let you know!

First, if you are doing any interior bush flights you need a duffle and under 35 lbs.
Second, no black, blue or bright colors and as a women over 50 black & white are my staples (I'm working on this)...... one does not avoid panic mode at this point.

And if you know me you know I'm a pretty last minute packer so obviously it's serious business if I've already started.

Luckily I have a number of things from my past trip to South Africa but needed to add a few items as well:

1. Duffle bag (love breaking out the duty free longchamps)
2. Warm vest and hat for chilly mornings and evenings (super handy last trip)
3. Rain jacket
4. Waterproof hiking shoes (new item)
5. Beige or khaki waterproof safari pants
6. Gray, beige or light colored light long sleeve shirts.
7. Cooling under shirt
8. Sun hat and baseball cap in light color
9. Bathing suit
10. Packing cubes to organize the duffle
11. Adapters
12. Cosmetic case with essentials: bug spray, sunscreen, benadryl, imodium (self-explanatory) , cortisone (if you happen to get bit), advil, bandaid, and all your beauty products ( just forget the makeup, it's safari)

Most of the camps offer laundry service thank goodness so I should have no trouble packing light right!?!
