Medical issues have kept Bryan from hosting the Weekly Comic Workshop at Half Price Books on Anderson Mill, but he will return next Monday, September 29, from 5 to 6pm! In the meantime: Enjoy this attempt to make folk villain Stagger Lee into a Solomon Grundy-type supervillain for the Dimensionals! Come bring us YOUR ideas in progress for feedback, or just come empty-handed to hear OUR ideas and give us YOUR feedback. This will be our one year anniversary, so we’re going to really pull out the stops this time. Don’t miss it!!!!

Fan Theory Friday here at Pathway Comics! Ever notice, in The Goonies, that the Depression Era treasure-hunter Chester Copperpot’s name is a homophone for “chest or copper pot?” As in, “What’ll it be, me hearties? The treasure chest or the copper pot?” …While “do you want to be rich?” may not be a great “theme” for a movie, it sure works fine if you massage it a little into “do you want to stick it to those sick, capitalist pigs up there or what?!?”

We’re not really feeling in the mood to actually make a patriotic ice cream in real life this year. But Bryan had an idea for one to highlight the nightmarish Orwellian use of language the enemies / wannabe dictators of America are using as psychological warfare against us!

Still going strong! Come participate in our free free free Weekly Comics Workshop… It’s free! Last week a kid asked if there was any stock beginning set of words for a comic book story, like “Once upon a time” or something. That’s just the kind of out-of-the-mouths-of-babes genius-questions you’re missing when you don’t drop in!!! How would you have answered the lad, by the way?

Happy Easter 2025 from our family to yours! We have a tradition here of making a piece of art, cut it up, and hide it in eggs for the kids to find and assemble! This year we made a portrait of our awesome dog, Pixel! And we had some family over for a fancy tea.

Immigrants! America’s pride and America’s strength! So how about some patriotic superheroes whose parents just barely made it to these shores… And who now find themselves attacked at every turn? How about some young Americans who find power in both their global heritage AND take it upon themselves to defend America from enemies foreign AND domestic? How about… The First Generation! Tell us what you think about these kids, slated to appear in future Dimensionals issues!

Our Weekly Comic Workshop on Monday went well! A new animator joined us, so our regular animator got to delve in with a whole discussion of hiring voice talent in the US and Canada! Meanwhile, Bryan coached the younger attendees on drawing mouth positions for animation (after the animators gave him a quick refresher course)! We used Bryan’s favorite How-To-Draw book from his childhood to discuss the shapes INSIDE your characters, and then picked up on some tips and shortcuts for drawing teeth by studying the Gene Colan art in his classic Night Force comics! Next workshop is 3/3/25 at 5pm. Join us if you can!

Join us this Monday as Bashful Bry talks about his work in a lab that studied “facial averages” and how it relates to the art of Caricature!

On MLK Day, our workshop took the opportunity to talk about some of the great historical comics out there! Only two attendees, but we learned one of them has a Nat Turner-meets-Harriet Tubman fiction in her head waiting to get out. Bryan talked about his ideas for a comic strip sequel to Amadeus about Mozart’s genius sister, Nannerl, getting revenge on Salieri (and he spent some of the hour working on character studies for this project) and then our teenage participant revealed he’d been secretly working all hour on a swell MLK portrait!!!! After acting like he wasn’t going to participate at all!!! Really made the night! Next week we’ll get into Caricature! 5pm Monday at Half Price Books on Anderson Mill, Austin, Texas!
