"The global live music industry was worth some $30 billion every year, but The Virus changed all that. Covid-19 shut everything down at once—gigs, live shows, and festivals, small and large, all over the world, gone. Sold out shows were cancelled, bars with stages for live music were closed so no more live audiences." Your heart is about the size of your fist, sitting behind your ribcage and in between your lungs. Its job is to pump blood throughout your entire body, carrying oxygen, fuel, hormones, and other important nutrients to your organs. It whisks away the waste products of metabolism and then cycles all over again. This extraordinary organ will beat about 2.5 billion times in an average lifetime. You need to take care of your heart with a few important nutrients! Out of all the members of one’s family, the chances are it will not be difficult to guess who has the worst dental hygiene: the pets. They do not brush their teeth, nor do they floss, and this goes on for years. Without care, plaque accumulates and slowly eats away at the gums and bone around the tooth. This is called periodontal disease. Balance difficulties can affect people of any age, however, falls in people 65 or older hold strong statistics. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four Americans over the age of 65 fall each year, every 11 seconds an older adult is treated in the ER for a fall, and every 19 minutes an older adult dies from a fall. I can tell 30 seconds into a phone call if the agent is a good negotiator or one that will be hard to work with. There are lots of clues, but the most important are the agent’s general tone and confidence. Confidence comes from knowing how to navigate a complex transaction all the while keeping your eyes on the goal. Good agents have a compass that keeps them always pointed towards the prize. The prize is a successful transaction where you buy or sell a piece of real estate. As Coronavirus continues to affect our country and working conditions, it has been reported that more than 40% of our country has made the adjustment to working from home part or full time. The switch to working from home has affected all of us differently. Most people are increasing screen time and adjusting to back, neck, shoulder, and even wrist pain when continued for weeks or months at a time. to make-shift offices put together at kitchen tables, back porches, or even from the comfort of the couch. Chances are, our newly created office spaces are less than ideal for our posture and could be taking a bigger toll on our bodies than we realize. Ergonomics, or how work-friendly our space is, is the idea that we can create a set-up to optimize the space we have with the tools needed to do work effectively. In terms of physical therapy, this means we are focusing on posture and body positions that decrease risk of pain or dysfunction. Fall is upon us and sports have resumed as the COVID - 19 scourge dissipates. Many sports involve rigorous arm motions that can cause pain and injury. Throwing a football, swinging a tennis racquet, serving a volleyball, shooting a basket, even throwing out a fishing line all involve muscles of the rotator cuff. Overhead athletes are highly susceptible to rotator cuff, pectoral, and biceps injury due to the aggressive nature of forcefully rotating the arm in a forward motion after winding the arm backwards. These injuries include tears, strains, and ruptures. Most athletes will experience some level of shoulder discomfort during their active life. Difficult times are invitations to inventions. No matter how much we long to go to a concert or sporting event, visit our favorite restaurant, or just be around others without wearing a mask and keeping six feet away, we can’t go back in time to before the virus. Yet humans are an amazingly adaptive social animal because we learn wisdom from each other. Such as from the powerful teachings of the framers of stoicism in Rome, over two thousand years ago. One such stoic stands out, Marcus Aurelius, an emperor who ruled successfully by using the tools of self-discipline, personal ethics, humility, self-actualization, and strength. From his letters, known as the Meditations, scholars learned what his beliefs and guiding principles were that aided him in navigating wars, famine, political unrest, and plagues.
Here are four of his personal beliefs. Read more from Leslie Tourish LPC, (pg.10). http://www.dsoutlook.com/october-2020/?fbclid=IwAR353c8qpu6pVXMAHD5RynGybvEQUUGWylZdBiiH9oKze_mjNn1I9pN2HNI
