Mixing!

Here at 5th, we love to mix and can work with all genres. While it’s certainly fun to mix songs that were recorded here in our studios, there’s something special about polishing home recordings and taking them to the next level.

Although mixing can be seen as a primarily technical part of the process, it can and should be just as musical as playing an instrument! Vibe is everything, even in the details.

Surprise!! It’s been a quiet summer on the socials for us, but that’s because of all this. The past few months have been sweaty, long days remodeling our control room, which now features a Neve 8058 as the centerpiece. We’ve taken a lot of time and care into creating a new room that we are super proud of. Come on and check it out!

Here’s our Langevin CR2001, a large diaphragm condenser that consistently seems to win in mic shootouts, especially for vocals. Clean, crisp top end, nice smooth midrange and a tight low end response, there’s little to be left desired!

This is one of our Ampex ATR 102 1/2” 2 track tape machines, primarily used for mix down and also for some super sweet tape delay slap back. At one point able to support 4 track or quadrophonic mixes, we have paired ours down to stereo (hence the 2 empty slots above the reels).

If you need to add glue, warmth, fatness and smooth out your mixes, this is one of the best machines around!

Finally have the new mix room rockin’ and super happy with the sound and workflow! Here’s part of what lives on the mix buss, a Forssel MADA 2 Ch AD converter, the Maselec MTC-1 Mastering Transfer Console, and the Maselec MPL-2 Peak and High Frequency Limiter 😍😍
