Phosphorescent's cover of "If I Could Only Fly" is special to songwriter Matthew Houck for more than one reason. Years after releasing his beloved 2013 LP Muchacho, Houck realized a line from the classic Blaze tune had snuck its way into "Muchacho's Tune," the first song he'd written for the record.

Phosphorescent's gorgeous version of "If I Could Only Fly" is available to stream now. 𝑺𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏' 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑩𝒍𝒂𝒛𝒆 is out digitally on August 7, 2026 with a physical release to follow in the fall.

Lost Art Records is thrilled to announce 𝑺𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏' 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑩𝒍𝒂𝒛𝒆, a new Blaze Foley tribute album of thirteen contemporary songwriters covering classic early Blaze recordings. Today we’re excited to share a double single of Uncle Lucius covering "Election Day" and Phosphorescent's version of "If I Could Only Fly."

Sittin' with Blaze will be released digitally on August 7, 2026 with a physical release to follow in the fall.

“Driving a cab in Austin and trying to make it in music brought me a lot of Blaze stories,” said Kevin Galloway (Uncle Lucius). “Blaze is this big man with the biggest heart and nobody was below him. And he was a little eccentric as South Austin is or used to be. And that’s perfectly okay. That’s what makes him what he is.”

“I came to Blaze a while back,” says Matthew Houck of Phosphorescent. “Like anybody who’s interested in songwriting you’re going to eventually find Lucinda, Townes Van Zandt, Blaze, Guy Clark. But Blaze was kind of a mystery to me.
