OUT TODAY Fay Claassen Brand New Album SOULPRINT! https://orcd.co/fayclaassensoulprintalbum
Intense musical connections, deep friendships, and personal growth form the foundation of Fay Claassen’s new album, SOULPRINT, set for release on November 14 via MARS Worldwide/ Mars Label Group. For the first time, Fay presents an album consisting almost entirely of her own original songs, together with her trusted band. Vincente '78- about her unknown half-brother- is the first single that is released on September 5th.
Musical friendships are the common thread running through SOULPRINT. The four-time Edison Jazz Award winner (the Dutch equivalent of the Grammy) wrote nearly all of the material herself, or co-wrote it with her longtime bandmates: pianist Karel Boehlee (Gino Vannelli, Peter Erskine, Philip Catherine, T***s Thielemans), guitarist Peter Tiehuis (Dizzy Gillespie, Al Jarreau, Chaka Khan, Gregory Porter, Metropole Orchestra), bassist Theo de Jong (Dee Dee Bridgewater, Candy Dulfer, Philip Catherine, Peter Herbolzheimer), and drummer Martijn Vink (New Cool Collective, Metropole Orchestra).
Her husband, saxophonist and composer Paul Heller (WDR Big Band), contributed two songs. In addition to Claassen’s own lyrics, the album features texts by Simone Pormes, Robin Meloy Goldsby, and David Linx, with whom she has previously collaborated (see liner notes for full credits).
On SOULPRINT, Fay offers a musical reflection of her soul—a personal blueprint. At times quirky and complex, at others deeply connective and loving, the long-awaited album tells her story as a wife, mother, and daughter, and the personal development that has shaped her. One standout moment includes a touching reference to a mysterious half-brother she has never met. The album also explores timely themes such as individuality, independence, and the increasing pressure on personal freedom in a digital age—guided by her inner strength.
