Sunset in Austin tonight is 8:27 PM — and somewhere between then and dark, up to 1.5 million bats are going to pour out from under the Congress Avenue Bridge. It's free, it's the largest urban bat colony in North America, and most visitors stand in the wrong spot to watch it.

We pulled this week's real flight-count numbers from Austin Bat Refuge (654,182 bats in one night, just 37,543 on a windy one) and found the exact free hillside where locals actually sit instead of fighting the bridge sidewalk crowd.
