We're looking at the proliferation of insane conspiracy theories being peddled by grifters online in the wake of Charlie Kirk's murder, and talking about how to recognize cult talk. We'll be reviewing some behavior experts' material. Plus: how to be discerning versus following any pied piper to madness.

The reason so many seem ripe for the picking for grifters, con-men, and conspiracy peddlers like Owens and Carrol is in large part because of our institutions. Our institutions failed us, gaslit us, lied to us, propagandized us.
Once people rightly lose that trust in institutions, the less confident and less discerning are then more easily targeted by charlatans.

Owens is not unlike a cult leader in the way she recruits the easily suggestible. She gives people the novel (you’ve never heard THiS crazy thing before) AND an identity buy-in that ties their sense of self (‘I’m a person who asks questions and can’t get fooled!’) to them purchasing whatever she’s peddling today.

It makes me think of the Asch conformity and the Milgram experiments. You can push people to transgress pretty far outside their usual rational behavior in a short of amount of time. Those who are listening as if on a drip-feed are being taken further down that path with more exposure and more buy in.

And listen - before you guys who have been swindled by this swindler come in here lecturing me about not trusting the clown media: I don’t. I also don’t trust clown influencers.

Never got the jab. Got booted from stores and a doctor’s office for not wearing the mask, didn’t conform to that nonsense and regularly speak against the transing of kids they’ve been trying to normalize. If you’re new here, that’s who you’re talking to. And guess what, I ALSO am not going where these crazy people lead either.

Don’t blindly follow. Be discerning

I had the great pleasure of interviewing Paul about how his Christian faith informs his response to the recent online rise in antisemitism and self-proclaimed fascism among some who claim to be on the right.

We get into the explosive, ugly and hysterical reaction he got from those often termed the ‘woke right’ when he simply said N***s and groypers are bad. 🤷‍♀️ We also discuss the situation in Israel and Gaza - for perhaps the first time on Deprogrammed.

Hey Folks - No Live show today, as I'm, still recovering from this surgery. I think I vastly over-estimated how quickly I'd be up and attem. Thank you for all of the well-wishes and poems and prayers and mostly for your patience during this time. I also rescheduled the book club video discussion, since I'm not on my game yet. The good news is that it gives more time for those who wanted to join us and couldn't. I've been writing more, which is another silver lining of not feeling up to being on camera. You can find my essays at kerismith.substack.com if interested. It's mostly about the things that interest me on the podcast as well: faith, family, culture, marriage, bad ideology like woke, and my dog, Tiger. Haha.
