Bringing back the basics with this one. One of the most important tricks we do as a Baton Twirler is the flourish. Remember go slow to learn how to do things faster. It’s important to focus on planes when practicing flourishes. Once you have the basics down, you should be able to perform this trick against the wall without hitting it. Breaking down a figure 8 (chocolate and vanilla) for little ones. I typically have to grab onto the baton for some kids and help them with the motion.

The most popular baton twirling hack IMO! Your hand should be flat like you are playing rock scissors, paper, and you chose paper. Remember to “glide” your hand flat on the pinky side, then “scoop” with the thumb down back when going toward the thumb side.

I also find it easier to begin with the little end pointing up. I use my finger to push the baton down to start the momentum.  Remember: don’t move too quickly until you can get the motion down perfectly. Once you practice without a hair tie on your wrist,  practice over your bed or a couch to catch the Baton so you don’t have to keep bending down to the floor.

As with all rolls, the best advice I have is to practice at least 30 minutes a day. If you do more than that, you will get rolls down much faster. I’m here if you need me. Reach out if you have questions!
