Singer, songwriter, author, and advocate for survivors of domestic abuse, Courtney Santana is my guest for episode 1600! After decades of singing back-up for the likes of Shinyribs, Jesse Dayton, and others and singing on over 30 albums, Courtney has released her debut album, the deeply soulful "Living Through It All" available now on all streamers, vinyl, and CD on Hardcharger Records. She co-wrote and co-produced the album with legendary artist Jesse Dayton who also plays guitar on the record. Courtney will be playing at Americana Fest in Nashville on Sept. 18 & 19, on Tuesday, Sept. 22 for HAAM Day in Austin, and on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Waterloo Records at 5:30 pm. We have a great conversation about finally getting around to making her own album, making an album that offers encouragement and the darkest of times, her years singing back-up, living through domestic abuse, raising two kids, becoming a grandmother, her memoir about survival "Off Kilter: Getting Right After Abuse", her Survive to Thrive Foundation, her Sanctuary App, using her life experience to make great art and help others, and much more.
