San Marcos is introducing a new way to crack down on unpaid parking tickets with a device called "The Barnacle." Instead of using traditional boots, the Barnacle sticks to a car’s windshield, making it impossible to drive until fines are paid. Once drivers pay online or by phone, they can remove the device themselves. The city says this new tool will target repeat offenders with three or more unpaid tickets and is meant to boost safety for staff and increase payment rates. After a warning sticker and 10 days to pay, cars become eligible for the Barnacle, which officially rolls out on March 10.🚗🛻

Do you think this could replace car boots? Are you ready for this to make its way to Austin? Let us know in the comments below.

Austin Uber users can now be matched with driverless cars through a new partnership with Waymo, which is operating autonomous vehicles across a 37-mile area in the city. Advocates say the technology is a perfect fit for Austin's tech-forward, tourism-heavy environment. Riders can opt into autonomous trips through the Uber app, and Waymo highlights safety as a key benefit, reporting over 33 million miles driven without human drivers across multiple cities. Uber plans to expand the service in Austin and to Atlanta next. Riders can still choose a regular Uber if they prefer.🚗

Is Austin ready for this kind of tech on busy roads? Uber drivers, does this make you nervous about the future of your jobs? And would you ride on one of these on your next outing?🚘🚘
