Perhaps more than any other time of the year, Christmas surfaces our longings.

As women we hold so much within us around mothering.

We long to have known a good mother.

Or perhaps we long to have been a good mother.

This season has a way of touching those places—where nurture was missing, complicated, or unfinished. Familiar images of mother and child can stir both warmth and ache, awakening questions we don’t often give language to: Was I held? Was I seen? Did I know safety? Did I offer it well?

If you feel tender here, be gentle with yourself.

Longing is not a failure—it is a sign of love still alive in us.

There is goodness even in the longing itself, and it is worthy of blessing.

May you be gentle with yourself and bless the goodness of the longing you carry.

Merry Christmas, good women.

Warmly,

Tracy

Joan Chittister writes that under pressure, women “tend and befriend… calm the chaos of the world… bind us together to carry each other when we cannot carry ourselves.”

We see those words lived out every day in the work of Red Tent Living and Sacred Interruption.

Around our tables, circles, retreats, and conversations, women come together in exactly these ways—tending what has been neglected, befriending what feels too heavy to hold alone, and creating places where weary souls can rest a moment longer.

If this work has mattered to you… or if you simply believe in communities that steady one another in the storm… would you consider supporting Red Tent Living and Sacred Interruption this Giving Tuesday?

Your gift, in any amount, strengthens the spaces where women gather up courage, calm the chaos, and carry one another forward.

It truly makes a difference.

Advent is the sacred pause—the aching anticipation for arrival.

As women, we know something about arrival. We arrive in rooms with our intuition long before our bodies walk in. We arrive to caregiving, to conversations, to responsibilities—we show up again and again.

And, how often are we truly received? Welcomed in the fullness of our spirit?

Tended to in our ache, or need for care, our weariness?

Advent invites us to slow the turning world and make space for the presence of Christ to arrive within us.

Join other Red Tent Women as we gather to welcome Advent led by our founder Tracy Johnson along with Cathy Loerzel, Heather Stringer and Christy Bauman.

Scholarships available.
