Perhaps more than any other time of the year, Christmas surfaces our longings.
As women we hold so much within us around mothering.
We long to have known a good mother.
Or perhaps we long to have been a good mother.
This season has a way of touching those places—where nurture was missing, complicated, or unfinished. Familiar images of mother and child can stir both warmth and ache, awakening questions we don’t often give language to: Was I held? Was I seen? Did I know safety? Did I offer it well?
If you feel tender here, be gentle with yourself.
Longing is not a failure—it is a sign of love still alive in us.
There is goodness even in the longing itself, and it is worthy of blessing.
May you be gentle with yourself and bless the goodness of the longing you carry.
Merry Christmas, good women.
Warmly,
Tracy
