Smoke and mirrors!

Behind the scenes of Miley Cyrus’s “Dream as One” music video for the film Avatar: Fire and Ash. One of the many fun projects I had the opportunity to work on as senior producer for Sony Picture’s virtual production volume on Stage 7.

Shot in a single day (with a pre-light the day before) in late November of 2025, the video premiered the weekend before the film’s release (roughly 2 weeks from shoot to final with a major US holiday in between).

The speed at which we were able to move wouldn’t have been possible without the benefit of the LED wall and real-time playback. It allowed us to capture everything in-camera (no green screen or extensive post needed) and gave DP Jack Webb complete control over the lighting.

This past year has been a blast screening and discussing “Cut to the Chase”, the short film I wrote & directed for Sony on their virtual production volume in Vancouver using the Akira vehicle processing system.

During the various panels we participated in at events like SXSW, NAB, and SIGGRAPH, we showed exclusive behind-the-scenes videos showcasing all aspects of production.

2026 kicks off with a bang! And a crash! And a boom! 💥 So excited that we’re rolling out “Cut to the Chase”, a fun and technically mind-blowing romp in the style of a classic spy vs. spy caper. I am genuinely am grateful and honored to have directed this short film that showcased the PXO Akira Virtual Production Ecosystem along with Sony’s incredible cinema tools.
