Bindi Irwin first shared her diagnosis in March 2023, opening up about a decade of severe pain, fatigue, and nausea before finally getting answers. Understanding that there are many more differences in the molecular analysis of endometriosis compared to what we once thought is crucial to move anywhere in the future regarding endometriosis research and care we receive.

Those key differences have opened up pathways of new resources and studying to help discover the cause of endometriosis and how the heck it even develops. Embryonic development has become the front of origin theories. Retrograde menstruation is not present in every individual with endometriosis. Surely not the men that have been diagnosed. Sampson himself, the man behind the 100 year old retrograde theory, has even notated retrograde menstruation can't account for ALL cases. Yet, where has healthcare been rooted within for all these years?

The modern-day focus of the tissue has helped change the very definition of endometriosis to "endometrial-like." Because it's ONLY similar and is NOT endometrial tissue, noting the key differences we know now, it is endometriotic tissue. These terms and education are still in the process of change for the better care and health of the endometriosis community.

One day, I hope to see endometriosis completely separated from reproductive care, in its own subspecialty. Away from misogynistic ideals that have harmed individuals for decades.
