This last Thursday, Dallas chapter leader for the Log Cabin Republicans, Blaine LeBron, doubled down on the "Unity Party" approach for "LGBTQ+" Republicans. He said, "you know, I'm a huge fan of this Unity Party message..." but then added "America First," and blasted "rinos" and "neocons," the opposite of the Unity Party message.
This follows his remarks in November in the Dallas Voice announcing his presidency and the relaunch of LCR Dallas after it collapsed in early 2023 (in 2022-23, LCR Ft. Worth and LCR San Antonio also folded, as did the state umbrella group, LCR Texas).
In that announcement, LeBron said, "Not just MAGA: The Unity Party vision: It’s easy to mistake this movement for being solely about MAGA, but the Unity Party is much bigger. It’s a coalition of disillusioned Democrats, independents and conservatives who are united around shared goals and common-sense policies." This terminology is almost identical to that of public media and the Unity Party's own descriptions: "the Unity Party is a diverse and growing coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents united by their bipartisan love of country."
In 2023 the Unity Party solicited Liz Cheney, Joe Manchin, and Arnold Schwartzeneger to run against Biden and Trump for the 2024 election.
In the same November announcement in the Voice, LeBron also called on Republicans to support the long Democrat-promoted Equality Act in Congress. LeBron said, "the Equality Act would provide protections for 13 million LGBTQ+ Americans — protections we all need."
The Equality Act has been opposed by a wide range of Republicans, conservatives, and libertarians because of its provisions putting into law the enforcement of Gender Ideology in "public accommodations" and expanding the definition of "public accommodations" to include some religious institutions, essentially enshrining into law woke-progressive notions of s*x and gender. The act would protect the right of any biological male to enter or participate in any "public" female space on the basis of self-identification alone. It would also outlaw any single-s*x homos*xual club, virtually requiring membership only be based on pronoun use.
In Texas, a gay men's clothing optional campground is currently under heavy pressure from the Houston Bears and other groups to change its policies to allow biological females in the campground if they use a male pronoun. The Houston Bears canceled their event to be held this weekend at the campground, and called on others to boycott the campground. The page of the campground was shut down after it was bombarded with hostile comments. Reports today from visitors at the campground today indicate the campground appears to be full, with about 140 men in the pool area alone at around 4:00 PM. One frequent visitor from Austin remarked, "it's the busiest I've ever seen it." The campground is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this weekend.
Under current federal law, either options are still protected, memberships can still be based on gender identity or they can be based on s*x - with members or private owners deciding - though there are many state and local laws requiring that only gender identity, not s*x, be the determinant for male and female public accommodations.
Republicans that support the Equality Act include, Larry Hogan, Charlie Baker (NCAA president recently criticized for his defense of policies forcing young women to use school locker room facilities shared by biological males), Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney, among others.
In the previous meeting on May 9, about a dozen LCR Dallas members gathered to celebrate LeBron's birthday, with official posts providing links to his personal social media.
LeBron is currently hosting and promoting a new podcast aimed at the gay community called "Coffee With G**s."
