Indie-rockers Metric () made a stop in Austin as they continue to promote their latest album, ‘Art of Doubt’.
I haven’t really been into Metric that much, but I did know some of their early hits including ‘Dead Disco’, which they didn’t play - they actually made the crowd choose between that and ‘Gimme Sympathy’, and the crowd chose the latter (I know right? WTF was that. Can’t let the people decide! 😂).
That aside, they put up a very good performance. Between catchy synths and dancey beats, the crowd was loving every minute of it, while lead vocalist Emily Haines gave these songs their trademark edge. Fun night.

Zoé () was such a splendid trip (both visually and musically) when I finally saw them live a couple of weeks ago at the Moody Theatre. And I say ‘finally’ because many of my friends are deeply into them + had been able to catch them live in past years.
You know it’s a great show when most (or at least half) of the setlist was comprised of new material and it all still felt like HOME - immersive doses of latin american rock with eclectic guitar loops and two drum-sets for a simple yet soulful sound. ♥️

And just like that, The Grand Pause is 2 years old. Granted it’s been a phenomenal experience to be able to share my perspective, shots and feelings about something as magic as live music.
I continue to think of ways to take this project to the next level, you may see some exciting things in the future.
For now, I can’t THANK YOU enough for the support, interactions and overall sense of community that I have received from you all.
To live music and its magic! 🍻

I’ve been away for a while, I know. Life has been crazy these last few months, but 2019 is shaping up to be a great year, hopefully. On that note, I decided to start this musical year with the boys from Brighton, indie rock band The Kooks (The Kooks) whom I had seen live a couple of times already - so why not? Third time’s a charm or so they say. That doesn’t necessarily applies as these guys have been superb every time I’ve seen them.
The Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater was as packed as I’ve ever seen it, singing along to each of their songs. I must admit I was kinda disappointed they left some of my favorite songs out of their setlist (Matchbox, for example - WTF GUYS?), but these guys always show up for a good night.
The show was a mix of old and new (more of the latter), which rounded up a good comeback for myself to this magical world of live music.

Overall, it was a great edition of ACL. A well balanced lineup that couldn’t have gone unnoticed.
Walking from stage to stage was relatively easy, and the sound quality was superb for the most part (sorry Deftones 😔).
One thing I haven’t been able to wrap my mind around is that half-full VIP area in the middle of the crowd. Loyal fans losing their voice while casual lookieloos get all the guitar picks. But maybe I’ve just gotten bitter with time?

Arctic Monkeys (), one of the biggest bands in my younger days book closed the ACL weekend 1. The now British rock veterans performed in front of a huge crowd at the Honda Stage as they surfed through their material with an A+ on ex*****on. Definitely not a fan of this ‘suave’ version of Alex Turner and the band, they remain attractive to a larger crowd that sang their latest hits from start to end.

From “we were not supposed to be here” to one of the best sets of the festival, French outfit Phoenix () captured the crowd for a set that comprised songs from their last three productions for the most part. Frontman Thomas Mars didn’t miss the opportunity to execute his traditional crowd-surfing antics and rounded up one more night for the books!
