๐ŸŒฑ The Vegan Yacht Is Moving to East Austin

๐Ÿ“„ Comment โ€œREPORTโ€ for my FREE Austin Food Guide featuring new openings, local favorites, and must-try spots around the city!

One of Austinโ€™s longtime vegan favorites is starting a new chapter. The Vegan Yacht โ€” plans to return in East Austin this September after closing its South Austin brick-and-mortar location in August.

The family-owned business started as a food trailer in 2010 before eventually moving into a permanent space at 2000 Southern Oaks Dr. Now, owners Mike and Danielle Wood are taking the concept back to its food-trailer roots.

Fans can expect the plant-based comfort food that built its following, including its popular Freeto Burrito, tempeh-based dishes and other vegan favorites.

An exact East Austin address and reopening date have not yet been announced.

Why This Matters

Instead of disappearing after its South Austin closure, one of Austinโ€™s longest-running plant-based concepts is reinventing itself and heading east.

๐Ÿ“„ Comment โ€œREPORTโ€ for my FREE Austin Guide featuring local development, business growth, rankings, and major changes shaping the city!

Austin just landed another major national ranking.

A new 2026 analysis from LendingTree named the Austin metro Americaโ€™s No. 1 boomtown, marking the third consecutive year it has taken the top spot.

The study compared the nationโ€™s 50 largest metros across three major categories: people and housing, work and earnings, and business and the economy.

Austin stood out with some impressive numbers:

๐Ÿ  3.4% housing-unit growth โ€” highest in the nation
๐Ÿ“ˆ 11.3% increase in new business applications โ€” also No. 1
๐Ÿ“ฆ 17.5% of residents recently relocated from another county, state or country โ€” No. 3
๐Ÿ‘ฅ 3.1% population growth โ€” No. 5

Austin finished with an overall score of 79.0, ahead of No. 2 Raleigh and No. 3 Seattle.

Why This Matters

Even as Austin faces the challenges that come with rapid growth, the latest numbers show the region continues to attract new residents, housing development and entrepreneurs at some of the highest rates in the country.

South Austin is getting another neighborhood coffee option. Stouthaus Coffee Roasters is preparing to open its second brick-and-mortar location at 3008 Davis Ln., Ste. 230.

The locally owned coffee company is known for specialty coffee, espresso drinks, house-roasted beans, and a relaxed neighborhood atmosphere.

The opening is currently planned for October 2026, bringing another locally grown coffee concept to this part of South Austin.

Austin just canceled all its adult indoor sports leagues to save money, and players packed a meeting to fight back. ๐Ÿ€

Comment REPORT and we will send you the full breakdown ๐Ÿ‘‡

Parks and Recreation is cutting all adult indoor sports leagues for the 2027 fiscal year. The move eliminates Capital City Athletics across five sports and saves $400,000. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Players say it costs little to run. They bring their own gear, and each night needs just a ref, a scorekeeper, and a custodian.

Many teams have played together for over 25 years. Private leagues cost around $2,000 a season versus $350 for the city league.

This is what budget pressure looks like at the community level.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Big Upgrades Are Moving Forward at Austinโ€™s The Arboretum

๐Ÿ“„ Comment โ€œREPORTโ€ for my FREE Austin Development Guide featuring major projects, new businesses, and developments shaping the city!

One of North Austinโ€™s longtime shopping destinations is getting a refresh. The Arboretum is moving forward with improvements under new owner Asana Partners, which acquired the nearly 200,000-square-foot property earlier this year.

๐Ÿ“ Located at 10000 Research Blvd., The Arboretum is home to a mix of restaurants and retailers including Pottery Barn, CAVA, Amyโ€™s Ice Creams, Lovesac, and more.

Plans call for new outdoor dining patios, refreshed common areas, improved connectivity and wayfinding, and updated storefront signage. Common spaces are also being redesigned to accommodate live music, pop-up retail, and other community events.

The goal is to transform the property into more of an all-day neighborhood destination rather than simply a place to shop.

Why This Matters

The Arboretum has been part of Austinโ€™s retail landscape for decades. These upgrades could bring new energy to the center while creating more spaces for dining, shopping, and community gatherings.
