Charlie Kirk sat at a table on a college campus and took questions from people who hated him.

That was the job.

Almost a year later, people are naming a holiday after the day he was killed.

And not one of them thinks they did anything wrong.

They call it a joke. They call it coping. They call it justice. They call it everything except what a person feels when somebody dies.

Nobody is asking them to agree with him.

Only to act human about it.

Cameron Lyon was 23 years old and he was almost home.

An SUV crossed into his lane and hit him head on. Troopers say the driver had no valid license and had been drinking.

And both of Ohio's senators say this is not the first Ohioan killed this way this month.

No license. A young woman in the passenger seat who lived. A family planning a funeral instead of a wedding.

Cameron Lyon was on his way home.

Nothing about that should have killed him.

Nearly 100,000 people signed it.

And it changed nothing.

The families asked in writing. They asked on camera. A former governor asked. A former mayor asked. Friday is the twenty fifth anniversary and they are still asking.

They wanted the morning to themselves.

Nobody could give them that.

For six years, he allegedly bypassed interviews, background checks, and supervisor approval from inside a federal office, until an indictment finally stopped him.

This wasn’t just corruption.
