Thirteen years ago I almost died. Looking back, it was the biggest turning point in my life.

I don’t think it changed who I am. It just stripped away the illusion that I had unlimited time.

Before, I figured there’d always be another year to get serious about the things that mattered, music included. When you’re staring down the possibility that your story ends sooner than planned, every excuse you’ve been making stops making sense.

It didn’t tell me what to value. It forced me to admit what I already did.

I wouldn’t be here making music if I hadn’t had that brush with death. Everything I make, I make because I’m alive - and because it matters to me.

For those who are wondering, the only place I'm dropping tracks at the moment is Soundcloud - I'm not doing Spotify until/unless I sign tracks. Soundcloud will be more or less my ID channel.

If you like it, please hit the like on the track in Souncdloud - it helps their silly algorithm know it's worth dredging up in "related tracks" so other people can hear it too.

This video makes some great points, but it does feel like it’s casting shade on bedroom producers who use sample collections like Splice, suggesting it detracts from artistic collaboration.

I’ve heard some great tracks from artists using Splice. I remember the feeling I got when running across the vocal samples Fideles used for “Are We Dreaming?” while rummaging through samples there - that OMG moment of realizing this track was AMAZING, and here’s where they sourced the vocal from. It spoke more to their artistry, from my perspective, than collaboration with other artists ever could.

Being able to collaborate with real artists is a privilege many people making music don’t have - but it’s easily afforded to the most successful names in the business, because let’s face it… putting names together gets attention, and attention equals dollars. That’s the real motivation behind the market makers of the music industry.

Keep making music. Keep saying something. If you have something to say, your music will be authentic no matter where you source your sounds from.

Been chugging on a few tracks the past few weeks, and got one to the point where I could push out a master and throw it on Soundcloud.

The lyrics I was working with were about finally feeling comfort in a loving relationship that felt overwhelming, so I tried to make music that floated between uplifting joy and the dark foreboding of struggle. The end result sounds dark to me, but Cyanite seems to read it as "positive and uplifting".

Perhaps I'm just getting less brooding as I age.

One of the strangest parts of making music in the modern world is realizing that creating the music is only half the battle.

The platforms reward intensity, outrage, spectacle, controversy, endless performance. They reward whatever keeps people reacting and scrolling. Quiet sincerity doesn’t travel as far. Nuance doesn’t travel as far. Art often doesn’t travel as far.

So you end up in this strange position as an artist: trying to share something real without becoming another product engineered for attention. Trying to avoid turning yourself into a caricature, a gimmick, or a machine constantly demanding engagement.

I understand why so many artists eventually give in to it. The system pressures you toward it from every angle.

But I still think there’s value in building something honest, even if it grows slower. I’d rather make music that actually means something to me than optimize myself into another disposable feed identity.

Dropping "Not Coming Back" on SoundCloud. It's one of several tracks I've been baking for the past few weeks.

I found the vocal first, loved the feel of them, and built everything out from there. I ended up just following the parts that felt honest and let the track take shape from that.

I’ve been thinking about what actually drives me.

I don’t really believe in talent as a defining factor. I believe in direction. It’s the act of choosing a point on the horizon and moving toward it, over and over, until the movement becomes part of who you are.

My North Star is simple: I want to build things that are real. Things that hold up when you strip everything else away.

Music is just where that impulse lives right now.
I’m not interested in chasing trends or staying in a pre-cut lane. I’m trying to capture those human moments we don’t have words for: the tension, the sudden clarity, the quiet losses.

If a track resonates, it isn't because it's perfect. It’s because it’s true.

The goal isn't to impress; it’s to connect. Not to perform, but to express. Everything else is just noise.
