A year ago, she was a student in this class.
Last week, she came back as a guest speaker.
And I couldn't have been prouder!
Last week, I had a blast speaking to students in Professor Heidi Carr's Women in PR class at the University of Miami. I also got to bring along Cristina Fonseca, a member of my team who graduated from University of Miami just last year.
After 25 years in PR, it was fun to share how I got my start. I was new to Miami, had zero connections, very little money and couldn't find anyone who was hiring.
But I was determined to make it, so I networked like crazy and reached out to top public relations agencies for informational interviews.
We talked about taking chances, putting yourself out there and some of the challenges women face in their careers, including imposter syndrome and learning to charge what we're worth.
As much as I enjoyed sharing my experiences, what I loved most was hearing Cristina share hers.
As she explained to the students, her path has been anything but linear. And that's something I think more young professionals need to hear, especially when there's so much pressure to have everything figured out.
You don't need to have your entire career mapped out. Sometimes the best opportunities come from paths you never expected to take.
Watching Cristina share her story and inspire the students was pretty special.
One of my greatest joys as a business owner is seeing the people on my team grow, gain confidence and thrive.
And this was definitely one of those moments!
