Hi, hello, my name is Nicole Frail, and you may know me from the twelve years I spent at Skyhorse Publishing and Sky Pony Press. Or you may know me from the ten years I’ve been editing for indie authors and querying authors and other clients via my small editorial business Nicole Frail Edits. And now, I’d like you to also think of me as the publisher of a (very super small) independent press. I in

tend to introduce multiple imprints under the Nicole Frail Books umbrella eventually: one for nonfiction, one for kids (because half of my heart belongs to children’s books), one for moms (because I’m a mom of three boys and I KNOW the struggle involved with trying to find just one second of free time for yourself, and to write a whole book in those moments… C’mon. I’d bow to you but my back hurts from carrying around my thirty-pound two-year-old). And all of them are very community driven. NFB officially launched its first title in November 2024. We started with a few anthologies, and those have been amazing. We introduced some new voices to readers. We’ve walked some debut authors through the editorial and publishing process. Since then, we've also published a good number of short story ebooks and a handful of novellas. Some full-length novels and nonfiction are also under contract. WE are doing it. WE as in, the community of amazing writers that I have stumbled into in the two-ish years that I’ve been more active online (thank you, bookstagram!). You are all talented, you are all driven, you are all impressive. And whether you want to pursue traditional publishing, you want a bit of hand-holding with hybrid, or you want to stick to the indie route, I want to support you. Very pleased to report that while we weren't looking, total KU page reads went up and over 200,000 for this little digital imprint!

We're not even two years in yet, and our ebooks are short stories and novellas, so this feels GOOD!

Congratulations to all the authors who are part of this number. Can't wait to see it (and you!) keep growing with this year's new releases!

When an injured NYU ballerina is sidelined for the summer, she returns to her small hometown where she meets an aspiring chef who encourages her to explore love and life outside of dance.

When an accident forces Margot out of the NYU ballet studio, she finds herself settling back into her parents’ house in northern Minnesota for the summer. Convinced her life is over, Margot stews at home until a seasonal worker from the local canoe-camping lodge befriends her.

Student chef Sebastian secures a summer job washing dishes in a canoe-camping lodge. A cranky ballerina captures his heart and he takes on the challenge of using his baking skills to gain her attention.

Despite Margot's limitations, Sebastian encourages her to get out of her house and her comfort zone through walks downtown, card games, and observation of her mother's beloved garden, which is home to a cluster of butterflies.

What will happen, though, when it’s time for them to fly their different ways?
