The I AM and This Day
This is the day the Lord has made,
Not the one I lost, nor the one I crave.
The morning light whispers His name,
Mercy new, steady flame.
I chased tomorrow, I mourned the past,
I missed the gift that would not last.
The holy now slipped through my hand,
While I dreamed of another land.
I called it faith, that restless chase,
But found no peace, only haste.
The I AM waited, calm and near,
Saying, “Child, I am already here.”
He is not “I was,” a fading sound,
Nor “I will be,” somewhere bound.
He is not “I wish,” a distant sky,
But “I AM,” the reason why.
He meets me where my feet now stand,
Not in my plans, but in His hand.
The manna falls, the portion given,
Enough for earth, enough for Heaven.
I sat beside love yet looked away,
Dreaming of some other day.
And still His grace would softly say,
“Be with Me, now—this is the way.”
Bitterness whispered, “You deserved more,”
But faith replied, “The I AM is more.”
I let my striving come to rest,
And joy awoke within my chest.
Joy that does not need to wait,
Joy that blooms within the gate
Of this moment, small and true,
Where time and eternity pass through.
The lilies told me, “Cease your run.
The work is finished, the rest begun.”
The sparrows sang, “Be still, be free.
The I AM delights to dwell in thee.”
Now I live this breath, this beat, this grace,
Not chasing God, but in His embrace.
Each morning light, a covenant sign,
Each heartbeat holy, wholly divine.
He redeems what I thought I lost.
He heals the heart that counts the cost.
He fills my now with all of Him,
The I AM—life’s sacred hymn.
So I lift my eyes and softly pray,
“This is Your gift, this very day.
Teach me, Lord, to simply be,
Here in Your love that’s holding me.”
