MID-YEAR FASTING AND PRAYER: A Time for a Spiritual Health Check

Medical doctors advise people above the age of 40 to undergo regular physical examinations. For men, this may include prostate screening, while women are encouraged to check their breasts and cervix. Doctors also recommend assessments of kidney and liver function, blood count, lipid profiles, and uric acid levels. These examinations help determine the condition of vital organs and ensure they are functioning optimally.

The results of these checks guide medical advice regarding diet and lifestyle adjustments, which may include rest, exercise, moderation in certain foods, or even complete abstinence where necessary.

If a bi-annual comprehensive medical check-up is important, what about a spiritual health check?

Yes—a Spiritual Health Check!

But what exactly should we examine?

Just as chemical toxins are harmful to the body, spiritual toxins such as anger, bitterness, resentment, envy, and unhealthy competition are harmful to the soul. The Bible calls these toxins sin, and they are destructive to our spiritual lives.

A spiritual health check should examine the heart for resentment, greed, anger, bitterness, and envy. Just as cardiologists use ECG monitors to assess heart function, we must allow God's Word to examine the condition of our hearts. Without such examination, the heart can become hardened and reprobate—a heart that no longer feels conviction for wrongdoing.

Did you know that a mid-year health check can also inspire prayers for divine healing when organs are underperforming or when medical interventions have not produced the desired results?

A spiritual health check provides an opportunity for sincere self-examination through God's Word. Many people are in church but not truly in God. For some, God is only a last resort—or not an option at all. Others honor Him with their lips while their hearts remain attached to idols.

When God becomes your first priority, He can heal supernaturally or guide the hands of physicians toward successful treatment. With Him, there is no misdiagnosis.

Prayer

God, examine me. Remove every root of bitterness, anger, greed, and every form of sin that gives Satan a foothold in my life.

Jehovah Rapha, You are my Healer. Scan my body and let the fire of Your Holy Spirit radiate through me. Burn away every trace of cancer, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, kidney disease, colon disease, nerve disorders, cellular abnormalities, emotional wounds, psychological and psychiatric afflictions, immune disorders, and eye diseases. Search through my body and remove every root of sickness waiting to manifest. Make me whole again.

Restore my health and make my joy complete. In Jesus' name, Amen.

On behalf of Christ Ascension Church, Ebonyi, I warmly invite you to our Two-Day Mid-Year Fasting and Prayer Programme:

THE GOD THAT HEALS, HEAL ME AGAIN

Come expectant. Come believing.

Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise".

Jeremiah 17:14

Your testimony awaits you!

The Dangers of Divorce

Text: Malachi 2:16; Matthew 19:6

> "What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder."

There are moments in life when the enemy does not come through the front door. He comes through a crack. A wound. A disappointment. A season of hurt. And if we're not careful, what started as frustration can become separation, and what started as distance can become divorce.

Today, I want to speak with compassion, not condemnation. I want to speak truth wrapped in grace. Because every marriage faces storms. Every relationship faces battles. And the enemy knows that if he can divide what God has united, he can weaken families, wound children, and rob generations of blessing.

Marriage is not merely a contract signed by two people. Marriage is a covenant witnessed by Heaven. When God joins a man and a woman together, He creates something sacred. He takes two lives and weaves them into one story.

The enemy hates covenant.

He hated Adam and Eve in the garden. He hates godly marriages today. He knows that strong marriages build strong families, and strong families build strong churches. So he attacks relentlessly. He whispers lies:

"You're not happy anymore."

"You deserve better."

"Things will never change."

"Just walk away."

And sometimes those whispers become louder than the promises we made before God.

The danger of divorce is not only the ending of a relationship. It is the trail of brokenness that often follows behind it.

There are hearts that carry scars for years.

Children who wonder if it was somehow their fault.

Dreams that once filled a home now sitting in silence.

Financial burdens.

Emotional wounds.

Spiritual discouragement.

The enemy always shows the pleasure of escape, but rarely reveals the pain of the aftermath.

Listen to me carefully: divorce is not God's first desire. God's desire is healing. God's desire is restoration. God's desire is reconciliation wherever possible.

I have seen marriages that looked dead come back to life.

I have seen couples who could not sit in the same room end up holding hands and worshiping together.

I have seen God restore trust, rebuild communication, and rekindle love where everyone thought it was impossible.

Because what is impossible with man is possible with God.

Now let me say this clearly. There are situations involving abuse, violence, or unrepentant betrayal where safety and protection must be taken seriously. No one should remain in danger because of a misunderstanding of Scripture. God cares deeply about justice and the protection of the vulnerable.

But for many couples, the battle is not that they have fallen out of covenant—it is that they have grown weary in the fight.

And weariness is dangerous.

The enemy wants you to make permanent decisions based on temporary pain.

He wants you to quit in a season that God intended you to survive.

He wants you to abandon what God still has the power to restore.

Church, love is not just a feeling.

Feelings come and go.

Love is a commitment.

Love is choosing each other when emotions are high.

Love is choosing forgiveness when pride says hold the offense.

Love is choosing prayer when frustration says give up.

Love is choosing covenant when culture says convenience.

Can I tell you something?

Every marriage will have moments when it feels easier to walk away than to work through.

But covenant says, "I'm staying at the altar."

Covenant says, "I'm going to pray one more prayer."

Covenant says, "I'm going to believe God one more time."

Somebody listening today is standing at a crossroads.

You've cried tears nobody knows about.

You've wondered if it's worth fighting for.

You've considered giving up.

But I came to tell you: before you throw in the towel, take it to the Lord.

Before you sign the papers, seek His face.

Before you close the door, let God have the final word.

Because God is still a Restorer.

He is still a Healer.

He is still a Miracle Worker.

And what the enemy meant for destruction, God can turn into a testimony.

Let's pray.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of marriage and family. Strengthen every struggling husband. Strengthen every weary wife. Heal wounded hearts. Restore communication where silence has settled in. Bring forgiveness where bitterness has taken root. Protect homes from the attacks of the enemy. Give wisdom, courage, and grace to those facing difficult decisions. And for those who have already experienced divorce, surround them with Your mercy, healing, and hope. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Remember: God's heart is not condemnation but redemption. No matter where someone stands today—married, separated, divorced, or seeking restoration—His grace is greater than every failure, and His mercy is new every morning.
