A new fundraising campaign has launched to preserve and activate the historic Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church at 2 E. Mount Vernon Place. The group, UNITE Mount Vernon Inc., is seeking to raise $50,000 by October 1 through a campaign led by Preservation Maryland as fiscal sponsor. With more than $300,000 already in hand, the effort aims to engage the community in restoring the 153-year-old landmark as a cultural and civic anchor. The broader campaign is projected to raise up to $750,000 by year-end, toward a full rehabilitation cost estimated between $5 million and $10 million. Key early support includes $250,000 in state bonding, $50,000 from the Goldseker Foundation, and $10,000 from the Mount Vernon Belvedere Association.
