Black Is: Critique & Connect Presents, “Devil’s Pie: D’Angelo”, a documentary film by Carine Bijlsma.

For our last event of the year, we’ll be re-screening the film “Devil’s Pie: D’Angelo” to close out the event series. We previously showed this film during one of our last events as a last minute decision to honor the artist’s passing. This time, we’ve decided to do another showing to give more people an opportunity to watch the film with community.

🔴We will start the film promptly at 6:20PM.🔴

OPEN CALL FOR BLACK IMAGE-MAKERS

THE EVERYDAY: Scenes of Baltimore
A photo-based group exhibition curated by , Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Black Is Magazine

What does your Baltimore look like when no one is watching?

We’re inviting photographers and image-makers to submit work for THE EVERYDAY: Scenes of Baltimore, an upcoming exhibition presented by Black Is Magazine. This show centers everyday life in the city, focusing on moments that might seem small but carry real meaning.

This exhibition builds on Black Is Magazine’s 2025 open call for The Everyday Archive, which asked Black photographers to reflect on what legacy looks like in daily life. Now we are turning that focus to Baltimore. We’re looking for images that document the rhythm of this city in ways that feel intimate, grounded, and true to how people live here.

Eligibility:
-Open to Black photographers and image-makers based in Baltimore or with strong ties to the city
-Film and digital formats accepted

To Submit:
-1 to 3 images (JPG or PNG)
-A short artist statement (150 to 200 words)
-Optional: link to your portfolio or Instagram

📅 Deadline: December 22

📍 Location: Charm CCC HQ (3100 Greenmount Avenue)

We are currently accepting for two features:

📝The First Time I Saw Myself in a Photo…
Share a brief written reflection (150–200 words) on the first moment you felt seen in a photograph. What did the image reveal to you about self, history, or representation?

Selected works will be featured in our first-ever print issue.

Deadline: September 1st
Submit to: [email protected]
Open to Black photographers, image-makers, and artists at all stages of their practice.
