What if a poem doesn’t end when you finish reading it?

In her review for Modern Mystery, Jane Lambert explores the distinctive structure at the heart of my chapbook, Blaze without Burning; each early poem is paired with a later counterpart, creating a “twin poem” that invites the reader to return, reconsider, and see meaning from a different angle.

Rather than repetition, the result is reinterpretation: memory, language, emotion, and identity shifting as the poems speak to one another across the collection.

As Lambert writes, Blaze without Burning is “less about arriving at meaning than about learning how meaning continues to shift after arrival.”

Words can inform.

But the right words can transform.

In this excerpt from Culture Buzz, I explore the surprising connection between poetry and leadership. While poetry isn't written to lead movements, it teaches us something every great leader understands: language has the power to inspire, unite, and change people from the inside out.

Tonight I Saw The Moon Again (Page 7)*
By William May

You are the cloud
that covers the moon,
but I will be the wind,
the light, space
between land and sky,
I will be what surrounds
you. You will block
what can be seen, but
your screen cannot be
between us.

*The poem is from my poetry collection called 'Blaze without Burning' published by Finishing Line Press in 2025

The Power of Rejection in Writing ✍️

Every writer knows the feeling. The email. The submission. The wait. The rejection. But what if rejection isn't a sign to stop; it's proof that you're showing up?

In this clip from our conversation with Ryan Dailey, we talk about embracing rejection as part of the creative process. Every "no" is another step toward growth, resilience, and eventually, the "yes" you've been working for.

And just as important? Finding a community that shares feedback, celebrates wins, and reminds you that you're not doing this alone.

How many rejections have helped shape your journey? Let us know in the comments. 👇

🎙️ Episode 19 of Argh! Not Another Podcast is now live.

Before today's conversation begins, William shares the heartbreaking news of the sudden passing of his younger brother, Eugene Harris May.

In the days since his passing, William has been reminded of something extraordinary: the incredible community Eugene built throughout his life. The people he supported, encouraged, and connected have now surrounded William and his family with that same love in return.

That's what makes this week's conversation especially meaningful.

William sits down with speculative fiction writer, editor, and publishing professional Ryan Dailey to explore what it really means to build a writing community—one where people feel safe to share their work, give thoughtful feedback, grow creatively, and support one another.

Writers are being targeted more than ever by increasingly sophisticated scams — from fake publicity offers to “too good to be true” promo schemes landing straight in our inboxes.

In this episode, I speak with Victoria Strauss, co-founder of Beware, about how to spot red flags, protect your work, and navigate today’s publishing landscape with clarity and caution.

Even if you’re not a writer, the conversation is eye-opening, practical, and deeply relevant.
