Such a fun evening at Busboys and Poets in Washington, DC last night, catching up with several friends from the National Speakers Association (NSA) DC Chapter while attending a book signing and conversation with the inspiring Cassandra Worthy, Founder and CEO of Change Enthusiasm Global®!

I first heard Cassandra speak at the NSA Influence Conference in Austin a couple weeks ago, and I knew I wanted to experience more of her infectious energy! That smile alone! 😁

As someone who has worked in organizational development and change management for my entire career, it was so refreshing to hear Cassandra champion a message I've long believed in and worked to advance: We are emotional beings. You can't leave emotions at the door - at home or in the workplace!

Change is constant. But we often don't acknowledge the difficulty of the change people are going through.

This message is perfectly aligned with the work I do - our humanity NEEDS to be part of the conversation. We're not machines. Let's honor what makes us human.

If you're going through change, honor the emotions. They're part of the process.

I can't wait to dive into Cassandra's book! 🎉

It's so true.

Stay focused on resentment, and resentment grows. Stay focused on forgiveness, and forgiveness grows.

The same is true for:

Resistance v. acceptance
Hate v. love
Negativity v. positivity
Comfort v. growth
Scarcity mindset v. abundance

And the list goes on.

Last week, I handled someone else's absurdity with absurdity of my own.

I got angry, and I went in with guns blazing.

I was triggered, depleted, and fed up, but that didn't excuse my response.

There's so much power in the pause.

As we head into the weekend, I encourage you to pause intentionally.

Pause and ask, "How do I want to show up?"

"Do I really need to state the truth here?"

"How can I say this in a way that is true to my values?"

I didn't handle everything perfectly last week, but I'm proud of myself for course-correcting in the middle of the fire, apologizing, and choosing dignity while still speaking truth.

We are all works in progress.

No matter who you lead - a team, a company, a family - it's really not about your voice. It's about theirs.

We get so caught up in our own performance.

Sure, we all want to perform well.

But are we also asking these questions:

Did I spark something?

Did they leave with a new insight?

Did I empower them?

Do they feel a little more supported?

Will this interaction help them do better, be better?

Leadership is often about passing the mic - helping others find their voice, their confidence, and their own wisdom.

If we can do that, I say that's a job well done!
