Television Tuesday: One of the best summer shows to binge watch these days is FX Pose. The romantic relationship between characters “Damon and Ricky” portrayed by Ryan Jamaal Swain (Howard Bison) and Dyllon Burnside on the television show Pose was so sweet, enduring, and genuine. It’s the first time on prime television a q***r relationship is depicted as normal. There’s a belief that q***r people are not looking for love, but simply multiple sexual partners which is far from accuracy or truth. One of the most frustrating things we see in television and film is the divide in how LGBTQI+ representation is depicted. We see the same thing with black relationships as well. Damon and Ricky’s relationship reminded me a lot of Ross and Rachel’s in Friends. Despite the “we were on a break” debate, we as viewers rooted for Ross and Rachel throughout the series. I feel that Damon and Ricky were robbed of that happy ending, but we at M4P like to think that they eventually found their way back to each other post Season 3. If you need some television shows to binge watch before the summer comes to end, check out Pose on Hulu. The first season is phenomenal! So much depth in the characters and the lives they lead.

Our next film trivia centers around yet another pioneering black filmmaker: Melvin Van Peebles.

While Van Peebles had an established career since the late 50s, it wouldn’t be until 1971 with the release of his groundbreaking film Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song where his name was catapulted into the public consciousness. But did you know this film also helped the then unknown band Earth, Wind, and Fire become the worldwide phenomenon we know them as today? Their soundtrack for Sweetback was an instant hit, and the rest was history.

Melvin Van Peebles was, and still is, one of the most important black filmmakers, and his work helped lay the groundwork for others to follow in his footsteps.

It’s Friday, which means it’s time for a new series, Friday Movie Trivia!! Our very first subject will be a filmmaker who’s immense passion for the art and unwavering determination in showcasing the African-American experience has inspired filmmakers the world over. That man is none other than the great Spike Lee!

Did you know that Spike Lee is the first and so far only filmmaker to win a Student Academy Award, a competitive Academy Award, and a Honorary Academy Award. He earned the Student Award through his revolutionary thesis short film “Joe’s Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads (1983), his first competitive Academy Award for his screenplay of the 2018 film “BlacKkKlansman”, and an Honorary Academy Award for his achievements through nearly 40 years in the industry.

Spike Lee’s accomplishments, his drive, and his love of the craft have been an inspiration for countless artists, and we here at Moving4ward Productions count ourselves amongst those inspired.

To kick off a new series on our page our lovely Intern Fanta has selected to highlight the movie Wendell and Wild: Directed by Jordan Peele and from the mind that has brought you countless stories like Coraline this film exceeded my expectations. Such a funny quirky movie that still tackles heavier topics like losing a loved one and what that can do to you. But also what is a family? and how important community is. I chose this film first because I have always had a deep admiration for animation. Growing up it’s all I ever watched except for movies of course. To be able to see an animated film that highlights Black people , specifically a girl, to be able to take up space in the animation world has made my heart so full.
