The Bamberg County School District Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the finalists for the position of Superintendent. The finalists are Dr. Chris Ballenger, Dr. Jacqueline Inabinette, and Dr. Davion Lewis.

Dr. Ballenger is currently employed as the Superintendent of Warren County Public Schools in Virginia.

Dr. Inabinette is currently employed as the Director of Safety and Special Projects (District Redesign) for Clarendon County School District in South Carolina.

Dr. Lewis is currently employed as the Assistant Superintendent for South Bend Community Schools in Indiana.

Harold Johnson won yesterday’s election for Mayor of Denmark. Johnson received 308(72.3%) votes, while challenger Letitia Dowling received 117(27.46%) votes. See next week’s paper for more details.

"Given current weather expectations and advisories from both the state and Bamberg County Emergency Services, at this time, Bamberg County School District will operate on an early release schedule of 11:30 am tomorrow, Tuesday, January 21st, and we will have an eLearning day on Wednesday, January 22nd. All after school programs and activities are cancelled for Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Athletic games that were scheduled for Tuesday and/or Wednesday will be rescheduled for later dates. We will make a decision about Thursday on Wednesday. Please keep in mind, these plans may change if weather conditions and/or advisories change. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation as we navigate weather conditions over the next few days. "

Update from NWS on Hurricane Debby. Take precautions.

Flooding potential remains high as Hurricane Debby crosses the region through late this week. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible again today with rain from Hurricane Debby moving into the area through the day. Rain will become widespread and heavy at times tonight through Wednesday. A flood watch is in effect for much of the area from noon today through Thursday evening due expected rainfall. The heavy rainfall will likely result in areas of severe and widespread flash and urban flooding, with significant river flooding expected.
