Maine Internet Radio

Maine Internet Radio Broadcasting World Wide from the great state of Maine! Over the years that concept has been largely lost. More corporations are owning the radio airwaves.

Maine Internet Radio is a company based on a simple concept: deliver great local radio programming using state of the art technology. Here’s what we believe:

Radio is meant to be programmed locally with the community, listeners and advertisers in mind. There are some exceptions, a locally owned station in your market. You will notice, however, the formats are pretty safe and broad. They have to b

e, in order to command a big audience and the advertisers have to pay a lot of money to keep their message on the air. Otherwise, the rest of the market is saturated by corporate radio, with music playlists that are the same in every radio market coast to coast. We also believe you should not have to pay for radio. So Maine Internet radio streams will always be free. No satellite subscription service or restrictions on how to use us. And we don’t think bombarding you with commercials is a good idea. Listeners tune out and advertisers don’t benefit. You’ll never hear more than 2 commercial breaks per hour on our stations. We are committed to having local people on our streams, providing Mainers with local talk, information, entertainment and music. The basic elements that once made radio cool. We also know you want the process to be interactive, like the old days when you called a station to request songs or ask a question. Through our blogs and social media, you can always reach out to us and you can count on us replying. Owner Kim Mitchell has almost five decades of media experience in local TV and radio. While he always dreamed of owning radio stations, he realized that today things have changed. The world is now more connected than ever. We are not bound by a radio signal that travels 50 or so miles. The internet is now providing information and entertainment 24/7 and can be received anywhere. Furthermore people are seeking out exactly what they want. Internet radio provides music and programming that commercial radio deems not viable by our broadcasting collegues. Our Live 365 app is available for all devices, so you can listen to us anywhere you have a signal in the U.S. Canada and England. Our streaming rights only allow those countries for now. Search "Maine", "Nice", "Wreaths", or "Cheese" to pick your favorite Maine Internet Radio Station, and make sure to save us as favorites. We hope you enjoy the streams, anytime, anywhere!

We will be doing a tribute to David Cousins of the 70's band, The Strawbs on Monday's show from 9am-2pm eastern on the Alternative Wave. The Strawbs was an influential progressive rock/folk band in the 70's which flew under the radar. Their music stands the test of time. David passed away Sunday after a long illness. He was 85, but his gift of music will live on. Join me!

The best alternative music that includes, familiar, deep album cuts and new independent artists! Kim Mitchell, with 50 years of radio experience, hosts from Bangor, Maine and Fort Myers, Florida. It's a unique blend of alternative music from today and yesterday.

It's our annual fundraising appeal to you. Please donate what you can to help us reach our goal of 2,500 by the end of July. The money is for helping to cover our streaming costs for the 4 stations of Maine Internet Radio. Go to our website at www.maineinternetradio.com and click one of the donate buttons. Our national ads, which you hear on 3 of the stations allow us to keep the streaming costs slightly lower than non commercial, but certainly does cover the music rights, servers, support personnel, websites, or the app. Thats where we need whatever help you can provide. We have designed buttons for many different price points, but if you have another amount that is not listed, please get in touch with us. You can also go old school and mail a check (!) to Maine Internet Radio, 388 Mount Hope Avenue, Bangor, ME 04401. We will keep you updated on how close to the goal we are throughout the month! Thank you all for helping!!!
