The lost towns of the Quabbin reservoir include Greenwich, Dana, Enfield and Prescott. The watershed area itself that supplies the Quabbin extends into Oakham, MA which is part of a fierce opposition to a battery park proposal by residents of it and surrounding towns. Local bylaws would not allow this structure, but the state overroad those bylaws and granted permission for its construction. The battery park site sits on top of aquifers that feed the watershed. This is the same water that supplies Boston with it's drinking water, so residents of the city should really take note of this potential project as well. But, back to the history of this place... In addition to the four completely lost towns, land was also taken from several surrounding municipalities—including portions of Petersham, Hardwick, Pelham, New Salem, Belchertown, Oakham and Rutland. All of this to build out the massive watershed footprint. The creation of the reservoir displaced around 2,500 residents, required the demolition of thousands of structures, and forced the exhumation of over 7,500 bodies from local cemeteries. The hike to Soapstone gives a pretty impressive overview of the sheer size of this place. There is impressive assortment of wildlife here from moose and bear to coyote, bald eagles and just about everything in between. The Quabbin is a wonderful area to hike, but no swimming is allowed and there is heavy surveillance here to protect the water. Get caught ignoring the rules and they won't hesitate to fine you heavily and ban you for Life. So our advice is the same as always, respect the land and be a good human...

Save this as a reminder to start planning your fall getaway to Vermont 🍁🍂🎃☕️

The Inn At Mount Snow

08/25/2026

The Inn At Mount Snow is a 20 room boutique hotel, located at 401 Vermont Route 100 in West Dover.

It was originally built in 1964, and underwent a major rehabilitation and reopened in December 2024 under new ownership.

It now combines classic New England charm with modern, luxury comforts, sitting at the foothills of Mount Snow, steps away from the Ski Resort and local shuttle.

We LOVED our stay here in late summer, and plan to come back during the winter months! Definitely check it out!

And as stated in the video, if you plan to visit in winter, book now for a cheaper rate 😉

Here is a favorite Central Massachusetts hike of ours that brings you to ruins on an island on Long Pond. The trail all the way to the ruins is lesser traveled for a multitude of reasons, but
we will tell you the conservation land surrounding the pond had been abused and trashed for years which ultimately triggered the DCR and Environmental police to monitor it much more closely. They enforce rules such as no swimming and more, so unless you want to pay a fine, we highly suggest you follow land rules and in general respect nature or it will get taken away. To be clear we are not big fans of the "1 kid misbehaved, so everyone stays inside for school recess" approach. After all, one person breaks the law we can don't all go to prison, but at the end of the day this is the world we live in. So to all you amazing rock stars human beings out there, let's make up for the bad by out weighing it with good and keeping places like this accessible.

AFFORDABLE VACATION ALERT! Quebec City is a personal favorite of ours. We often make the 6 hour drive (that makes you feel as though you've hopped a plane over seas) multiple times a year. Summer is the height of tourist season and we recommend a visit to Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier if you are there this time of year. However, Winter is just as amazing with their over the top Christmas Spirit in December & Winter Carnival in February. Our goto accomodation is Hôtel Le Priori which sits in the heart of Old Quebec, has amazing prices with a wonderful breakfast buffet included in your stay, It is also walking distance to so many wonderful restaurants and pubs. Ciel Bistro-Bar has some of the best views in the city, the floor slowly rotates as you dine giving you a view in every direction over the course of a meal. Pape Georges is our favorite pub on Earth, it's rustic with great drinks and hardy classic food options, make sure to stay for the live music and great vibes. Strøm spa nordique has an amazing outdoor thermal experience along the Banks of the St Lawrence we enjoy every December. There is endless history and beauty in this city and so many great restaurants, shops and people. Follow Bonjour Québec for all things Quebec! We look forward to sharing a full video episode this December. ❤️

Never in a million years did we think this page would hit 5K followers. Thank you all so much! We are just 2 people who work ordinary jobs and love to find affordable travel. The photo below is from a 10 day trip we did from Boston to Kauai. RT flights, rental car and Airbnb for under $3,500. Don't believe us, if 20 people comment "Prove it" on this post, we will release a video showing you exactly how you can do the same.
