Keep your personal data safe from malicious actors!

We've recently run into an issue with customers receiving phishing attempts in their "bardstowncable.net" inboxes from people trying to acquire personal login information! To protect yourself from these phishing attempts we urge that you follow these simple steps!

But first, what is phishing?
Phishing can be described as a social engineering tactic where a malicious individual is disguising themselves as a trusted reliable source, in order to gain personal information from unsuspecting victims.

How can you defend yourself?

1. Know that the City of Bardstown, and Bardstown Connect have NEVER and will NEVER ask you for your personal login data over email. If you ever get an email asking for your username and password assume it is NOT from us.

2. Hovering over or expanding the sender’s address may reveal who they truly are! If you ever receive an email from "WebAdmin" or "Bardstown Communications" try double clicking that email address and see if it shows a different name or email. Spoofed names will often be displayed before the sender’s genuine email address, confusing users and tempting them.

3. Be vigilant when clicking links in your email. Don't just click any link whenever you're on the internet. Make sure you TRUST the link and the person providing it to you. This goes not only for our emails, but for any link you see on the internet. This is often how damage begins. With some links, malicious actors can do a lot: grabbing your public IP, automatically downloading malicious files, or in our case, requesting your login information.

4. If you have been exposed to these phising attempts and have provided any of your personal information please make sure to change your shared passwords accross your other accounts. If they have you're login information for one application, its likely that they can use that same login information to access other services if these credentials are shared between them.

To our email subscribers, thank you for your patience. Yesterday around 6pm email services experienced a critical failure. Please bear with us as a third party company hosts those services and their infustructure has gone down momentarily due to an unexpected hardware issue on their end. We are in contact with them and are recieving regular updates. We should hopefully have it back online very soon.

We are aware of a widespread outage affecting approximately 4,000 customers in the Boston Rd. area, Botland, Bloomfield, and areas in between. Our crews are actively working to resolve the issue and restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

At approximately 12:30 pm, the city of Bardstown had a power blip that caused some of our backend cable and internet systems to go down. We are aware of the issue and are working on getting service brought back online as quickly as we can. Thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience.

If you are still having trouble reconnecting your cable box after yesterday's outage, here are the steps you will need to follow:

1️⃣ Press the CBL button on your remote.
2️⃣ Press the Power button.

🔹 If your box was disconnected yesterday, you’ll need to call City Hall to have it reactivated. They can send a signal to get you back up and running!

Our scheduled maintenance window for cable boxes didn’t go as planned, and service is currently down. We’re working to restore it as soon as possible.
⚠️Please leave your cable boxes hooked up—⚠️unplugging them may cause further issues. TVs connected directly (without an HD box) will continue to work as usual.

On the fiber side, the maintenance went well, but if you’re experiencing issues, try power cycling your equipment to restore service.

On Saturday, February 8, an internal network outage caused a disruption in video service for our cable customers. Our team worked throughout the day and into the night to restore service, and we appreciate your patience while we resolved the issue.

We are reviewing our network to help prevent this from happening again and improve reliability. A credit of $10 will be provided to affected customers.
