Thomas Nelson High School has named Markus Griffin as the new head coach of its wrestling program.

Griffin is no stranger to the Generals, having previously served as an assistant coach. School officials cited his 25 years of wrestling experience, strong work ethic and commitment to student-athletes as key factors in his selection.

The athletic department says Griffin will lead continued efforts to grow wrestling opportunities from kindergarten through 12th grade while expanding participation and development for both boys and girls.

Thomas Nelson officials say Griffin brings a clear vision for the future of the program and will help build on the foundation already established for Generals wrestling.

Local law enforcement officers and firefighters will once again team up with the American Red Cross for the annual Nelson County Battle of the Badges Blood Drive.

The community blood drive will be held Thursday, June 18, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Bardstown Fire Department Training Room, located at 1 Arch Pendergrass Way.

The event gives residents an opportunity to donate blood while showing support for either local police or fire departments in a friendly competition to see which group can recruit the most donors.

Organizers say blood donations are especially important during the summer months when supplies often run low. All eligible donors are encouraged to participate and help support patients in need throughout the region.

The blood drive is sponsored by the American Red Cross and is open to the public.
