UpstateSnow.com

UpstateSnow.com Reliable winter weather forecasts for Upstate NY, with special focus on Central New York and Tug Hill It's more than just snowfall. The type of snow that falls.

Snowmobiling in New York State is very popular and highly dependent on weather conditions. Temperatures. Winds. These conditions can make snowmobiling fun or frustrating. Sometimes both in the same day. Upstate Snow was started in 2012 specifically to give snowmobilers in Upstate New York a resource of weather information and content that specifically would help them plan their rides and where the

best places would be to ride. More detailed and specific information not given in standard NWS forecasts or on local TV weather reports. Over the last 8+ years we've gained a big following. A lot of snowmobilers sure, but many whom like our style of forecasting and reporting on the weather and snowmobiling in general and use it for planning (or avoiding) travel across Upstate NY. However you use the site and this free service, we hope it's a benefit to you. If you wish to become a sponsor on our website or for our podcasts, email [email protected] for more information. We encourage you to help the clubs (both financially and with your time in doing the work needed to get the trails ready), respect the clubs, respect each other, and treat others (on the trail and anywhere else) the way you would want to be treated.

Hey there! It’s April 9th and even though we started off with nothing 36 hours ago, we have in some places 10-15 inches of snow. That was more than my 4-8 on my previous post. In any case, there is just enough snow and cold today to where if any local yokels on the actual Tug Hill wanted to say they rode in April, they could. For a few miles. Seasonal roads only. Remember it’s off season rules now. If you can’t do it today, then FUGEDABOUDIT!

We interrupt this SPRING TIME weather pattern to bring you a brief return to winter. Not enough to ride on. It will melt fast in a few days at most. But you know if it is out there, I will cover it!

This is the post you can’t resist. This is the post you will more than likely laugh at. Scoff at. You’ll say winter is over. Trust me, it is. Did we have a great winter? Yes we did! But there are times to where Mother Nature fires us a few last bones of winter. This

THANK YOU for a great season for Upstate Snow! This was the best season and the most consistent season we have had in a decade! To all of you whom have made it possible: THANK YOU! Now time for the warmth and the floods to come about. Oh my!

On behalf of Zachary, Rich, and Upstate Snow, we wanted to take a moment as this is our last regularly scheduled update for the 2024-25 season. THANK YOU to all those whom made this season what it was: THE BEST SEASON IN A DECADE! Not since 2014-15 have we had a season like this. Now

Just a little bit more snow to go. Not much but some. Cold enough this weekend to put in your last weekend ride of this long and glorious 2024-25 season! Why do I say last? Have you seen temperatures for several days next week? Oh man!

Snow showers with some accumulations locally will continue the rest of today, tonight and linger into the first part of Saturday. Tomorrow will be the coldest day in the foreseeable future. By Tuesday, the BIG TIME THAW will be hitting. This is your announcement. This weekend coming up, although muc...

It's GAME OVER for snowmobiling everywhere EXCEPT NORTH of the Thruway from a Syracuse to Utica to Schenectady to Saratoga to Whitehall line. Everything north of there is good to great! You still have plenty of snow with a little more coming in the next day or two. After this weekend: GET READY. IT IS NOT LOOKING GOOD AT ALL. The end to this amazing season could be on the horizon.

The freezing air is about to come roaring back. This should put an end to this warmup and melting period. For now. This weekend is actually looking good in areas that still have tons of snow to ride on. And there are more than enough places with more than enough snow. For now. Looking ahead

But it's so #$%@! cold now!!! NOT SO FAST! It is MARCH which means you can see ANYTHING within 48 hours. From -10 to -20 in the Adirondacks as of this writing, to the 50s and heavy rain 48 hours later with flooding an increasing likelihood. The bottom line is this: If you can take today off: RIDE TODAY! If you can take tomorrow off: RIDE TOMORROW! Because after tomorrow, the riding plain across Upstate NY gets smaller and likely for the season. Read all the details in my LONG morning blog. Oh and by the way. I AM BACK!!!

If there is any shot across the bow, a warning to ride now for the best conditions remaining in this absolutely long 2024-25 snowmobile season, TODAY AND TOMORROW ARE YOUR DAYS! If you have ANY chance to take today and/or tomorrow off to ride and can afford the time, DO IT NOW!!! Seriously. Do it

It has been a super snowy January and February! Now it's time for the first THAW of the 2024-25 season. How much snow goes? How much Ice Jams? How much flooding? How many trails close across Upstate NY? Those are the questions we try to answer (at least as best as we can) in today's blog.

Welcome to the post you didn’t want to read from me. The “January” thaw… or the “February” thaw… is finally here. It will be here in general for 4 days. Temperatures will be near to above freezing the entire time. The best chance of rain and temperatures in the 30s, if not the 40s will

We will still get some localized minor snowfalls over the next few days. A majority of the state will remain DRY. Next week temperatures rise above freezing for several days, we start to get some melting, and a change in the pattern. A true thaw for the first time in nearly two months!

It’s time to write another blog. So here I go. Deep snow cover continues across Central NY, The Tug Hill, Adirondacks and North Country. Some areas have all time record high snowfall on the ground, especially Oswego, Oneida, Lewis and Herkimer Counties. There will be some melting of the snow next ...

Now that a little time has entered into the equation and not much snow is expected for several days, I figured I would focus some this evening on all of the very deep and dense snow pack over parts of Upstate NY. In some areas it's near all time records! Then I go into next weeks snow which is looking bigger by the day, especially the end of next week. Come with me down this path this evening!

Hey there! Deciding to go on an evening blog this time. Again. The weather will actually be QUIET for the next several days with moderating temperatures. As the thermometer returns to normal early next week, it returns to a place it hasn’t been most of this month: ABOVE FREEZING! After a few days ...

OK I can ACTUALLY put up a snowfall map for tomorrow. A VERY MINOR snowfall map. After tomorrow we have several days with temperatures nowhere near as bad as they have been. Or are now.

TODAY IS YOUR DAY TO GET OUT AND CLEAR THE SNOW OFF. SERIOUSLY. TAKE THE DAY. ESPECIALLY WHERE THE LAKE EFFECT LEFT ANOTHER SEVERAL FEET OF SNOW. ROOFS ARE CAVING IN EVERYWHERE. SEVERAL PEOPLE I KNOW HAVE HAD ROOFS CAVE IN OVER THE LAST DAY BECAUSE OF THE INCREDIBLE SNOWS. DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO

I am sorry. Getting pummeled where you have the lake effect going on. I haven't seen Lake Ontario act like this in almost 30 years.

I AM SORRY. SO SORRY. THIS LAKE EFFECT, WIND, AND COLD EVENT HAS BEEN BEYOND WHAT I THOUGHT. THE SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS WERE WAY MORE THAN I THOUGHT. IT LOOKS LIKE THE SECOND “GENERATIONAL” TO “HISTORIC” LAKE EFFECT OFF OF LAKE ONTARIO. JUST THIS WINTER ALONE. I KNOW YOU ALL ARE BURIED SO BA...
