One person has been arrested during an investigation of an armed robbery and kidnapping case from earlier this year. Detectives are still looking into the identity of other subjects involved.
On June 14, 2025, at 3:15 in the morning, Valdosta Police Officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of East Park Avenue, after a citizen called E911 to report a male in their yard who was bleeding from his head. When officers arrived, they found the 21-year-old male with a cut to his head. South Georgia Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the victim to the hospital for treatment.
While officers and detectives spoke with the victim, he reported that he had walked to the McDonald’s drive-thru, located at 2102 North Ashley Street, to purchase some food. He stated that the restaurant would not serve him because he was not in a vehicle when he approached the drive-thru window. The victim got into an unknown vehicle that was already in the drive-thru, even though he did not know any of the occupants.
After getting food, the victim was taken to a convenience store, where he went inside and made a purchase. As the victim re-entered the vehicle, he reported that he was struck in the head with an unknown object, which he thought may have been a gun. The victim stated that he was taken to different ATMs and forced to withdraw money. When the victim was unable to get money, the offenders physically assaulted him. The victim was able to get away from the vehicle and ran.
Detectives obtained hours of surveillance videos from areas throughout the city. Through investigation, detectives identified the vehicle that was involved. Detectives identified Kayla Wakefield, 18, as one of the occupants of the vehicle when the incident occurred.
After making the identification, detectives obtained arrest warrants for Wakefield for:
• 2 counts aggravated assault-felony;
• Armed robbery-felony; and
• Kidnapping.
On August 13, 2025, members of the Valdosta Police Department Power Squad Unit located Wakefield and took her into custody. She was taken to Lowndes County Jail on the arrest warrants.
Detectives are still investigating the case to determine the other occupants in the vehicle. Further charges will be pending.
