The New York Stated Sheriff’s Association released a statement today on behalf of all Sheriff’s of our state. I concur completely with the verbiage contained within this statement and echo the words of the Sheriff’s Association with regard to the fact that we, (as Sheriff’s), “support reasonable licensing laws that aim to assure that fi****ms do not get into the wrong hands”. “We do not support punitive licensing requirements that aim only to restrain and punish law-abiding citizens who wish to exercise their Second Amendment rights”.
None of these new laws will prevent mass shootings or other acts of violence. People who are ill-intended will always find the means to carry out these horrendous acts regardless of any new laws that are passed. I believe that our current (NYS) leadership is more concerned about being “first” out of the gate with “responsible gun legislation” without any input from the appropriate stake-holders. This has been a pattern of our government on many failed laws to include the Safe Act, Bail Reform, Discovery Laws, Legalization of Ma*****na, to name a few.
I fear that our current government is doing nothing more than trying to discourage, prevent, and make as difficult as possible law-abiding citizens from obtaining a pistol permit license in NYS and certainly hope that they aren’t successful in this approach.
