125 years to the day.

The story of the American Royal began on October 23, 1899, when the National Hereford Show graced the grounds of the Kansas City Stockyards. This event marked the first nationwide show for the exhibition and sale of purebred cattle, and shortly after adopted the name 'the American Royal'.

Season 2 kicks off with a special guest. Hope you enjoy the first of this two part episode.

In this episode of The Cattle Call, host Curtis Ohlde sits down with Jaclyn Wilson of Wilson Flying Diamond Ranch and Flying Diamond Beef on the Western Edge of the Nebraska Sandhills. The ranch was homesteaded in 1888 making Jaclyn the fifth generation of Wilsons to live on the ranch. In part 1 of this two-part episode, Jaclyn shares about the Ranch History, family coming from Holland and the importance of succession planning. Jaclyn also shares how the ranch transitioned originally from Shorthorn cattle to Herefords then introducing Red Angus, South Devon and Simmental Genetics. The cow herd, however, has stayed red in hide when most have gone black. Something else the ranch has done that isn’t common for the region is carrying over feeders and running as yearlings. Wilson Flying Diamond Ranch has a lot of International Travelers this year and a highlight for some of those travelers has been Topper a Longhorn Steer.

Look for the second half continuation with Jaclyn in episode 25, she shares some of past and current enterprises, Flying Diamond Beef, Leadership roles and more. For more information about Wilson Flying Diamond Ranch or Wilson Flying Diamond Beef, they can be reached at https://www.flyingdiamondbeef.com/ or on many social media platforms.
