We knocked out this segmented retaining wall over the weekend, turning a bare slope into a solid and clean outdoor feature. First step was excavation—digging out and leveling the base to make sure the wall had a stable foundation. Once the gravel footing was compacted, we started stacking the block courses, checking level every step of the way. The interlocking design of the segmented block made the process go smoothly while still giving the wall strength and stability. By Sunday evening, we had the full wall in place, backfilled with gravel for drainage, and capped it off for a finished look. A quick weekend project that completely changed the function and appearance of the space.

It was a pleasure creating a structure for this unique outdoor learning complex. We are honored the Batesville Community Education Foundation brought us in to help bring their vision to life.

The public grand opening of this unique open-air educational facility will be held on Saturday, August 3.

“I specialize in building custom timber structures along with the help of my wife, Jess. I am a self taught woodworker who has had a passion for building and working with my hands from a very young age. Along the way, my interests for building have taken me from creating furniture to finding a deep appreciation for timber frame as well and post and beam structures. I have been able to fine tune my skills and techniques from hands on learning to generous amounts of research so that I can create quality structures.

Not only is my goal to create custom pieces, but also to reintroduce you to the timber frame style craftsmanship and quality that our culture has lost focus on.
